Applegate is 6-3 with a lankier athletic frame that has some strength present and plenty of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from a slightly open taller athletic stance, strides on line, short load back to a wrap. Hips rotate completely and he maintains some lower half balance. Hands stay inside, short and quick to the ball, uphill swing path, gets extension through the ball, showed a pull approach with the ability to use the whole field, power present to his pull side, natural loft in the swing, exit velocity was 96. In the outfield, gets body behind the ball and aggressively fields through it with above average hands, quick clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot, short arm action, position velocity was 80. Ran a 6.90 60 yard dash.
Preseason All-State II
Long projectable 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. Athletic slightly open stance at the plate. Toe tap stride in and lands closed Hands stay tight and inside the baseball. Swing path is level and gets in and out of the zone quick with some pull side tendency. Doubles power with potential for more power. Exit velocity was 87 mph. Squares up to catch from the outfield fielding between the feet. Short arm action from a three-quarter arm slot with average arm strength and a 80 mph positional velocity. Ran a 4.32 home-1st time.
Projectable athletic frame standing 6-foot-3, 175-pounds. Hits from the right side from an open athletic stance, strides forward with a toe tap to stride, and lands with a closed off wide base. Swing path has some uphill tilt and gets to a high two hand finish. Lower half finishes with some explosion and swings have intent to do damage. Pull side tendency with some power potential and an exit velocity of 85 mph. In the outfield glove works outside the body to catch, works through the throw, and has a short arm action throwing from a three-quarter arm slot at 80 mph. Showed nice athleticism and quickness by posting a 6.97 60.
