VA/DC Scout Blog

Famiglietti continues to develop into a nice ballplayer. He looks very comfortable at third base, with good footwork and softhands, made a nice backhand play and has some arm strength. Athletic and could move to other positions if needed, but a good defender at third. At the plate, hits from an upright open stance, short level line drive swing with some batspeed. Has gained strength and is filling into gap power, still has plenty of projection left. Went 2-2 in the game with the single in the video, a sacrifice bunt that he beat out for a single, a walk and a hit by pitch. Showed some speed and baserunning ability as well.

Mid-Atlantic Challenge

Athletic projectable frame with some strength at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Hits from a tall, slightly open set up. Small leg lift load working out to hitting position. Works hands down to shoulder level with arm bar. Level bat path working hands through contact. Got around the ball at times. Shows some strength in swing. Active feet in the field. Stays on balls of feet and moves well, getting to a strong position. Exchange is clean and smooth with a short arm action across the diamond. Throws were accurate and had some carry. Showed ability and comfort to throw from multiple angles.

Famiglietti has an athletic frame with some projection left to it. At third base, had a stellar night. Good first step and positions body well, soft hands and good rhythm and instincts fielding. Made two good plays to backhand, one a sliding shorthop pickup on a hard two hopper, the other was farther up the line and he took a good angle to cut off. Also made a good play to gloveside, cutting off an in-between hop and playing through it in rhythm, making the play look a lot easier than it was. At the plate, used whole field and showed some batspeed, the video below was a lineout to center that he barreled and got some carry on. The defense is there and the bat has a chance to be very good as well as he continues to develop.

Preseason All-State

Famiglietti is 5-11 with an athletic frame that still has a lot of projection left to it. He hits from the right side from an open balanced athletic stance. Short stride on line, loads back to a wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Hips rotate completely and have some explosion, maintains some balance during his swing. Slightly uphill path, stays inside ball well, showed good approach working gap to gap, line drive hitter with potential for doubles power, exit velocity 86. On the infield, clean feet, rounds ball and fields with a wide base and above average hands. Pushes through the ball and gains ground on a clean exchange, throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a shorter arm action, infield velocity was 80. Ran a 4.40 home to first. On the mound, throws from a three-quarters arm slot, short arm action is free and loose, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are uphill and closed, lands closed with a fall off finish. Fastball was 78-80 with some late boring action to armside. Curveball had gradual 10/4 break and good armspeed, running 68-70, shape is good and pitch has potential as it tightens. Change-up was 70-73 with some sinking action and was thrown with some armspeed.

11.5.17: Famiglietti is 5-11 with a lanky frame, he hits from the right side from an open athletic stance. Short stride, smooth load back with slight wrap, some rhythm to his swing. Explosive lower half and some balance to swing. Short to ball with some bat speed, level line drive swing, good approach worked gap to gap, exit velocity was 82. At third, good feet, rounds ball well and fields it with a wide base and above average hands.
