Portela is 5-9 with a strong athletic frame that has some projection left to it. He hits from the left side from a slightly open tall stance, strides on line, smooth load back. Hips rotate and he maintains some lower half balance. Keeps hands inside, some strength at contact. Slightly uphill swing path with some carry in the gaps and natural loft in his swing, showed a good approach working gap to gap, exit velocity was 84. In the infield, gets body behind ball and fields with average hands. Works through ball to a clean exchange, throws from a lower three-quarters arm slot with a short arm action, infield velocity was 74. On the mound he throws from a low three-quarters arm slot with a longer arm action that is free, normal effort to his delivery. Shoulders are downhill and on line, lands square with an athletic finish and some recoil. Fastball 68-73, with some cut to it. Curveball was 52-53 with some armspeed and 11/5 break.
