8-15-2018: Strong bodied third baseman who did not look like the Justin Lavey I’ve seen every year since his junior year in high school. Looked sluggish during my July visit to the Cape. Ran, threw and swung all with more effort than at anytime I had seen previously. Here’s what I wrote in The Scouting Trail: Week 4 “...showed an average arm during the game, plus in pregame. Below average range to his backhand, above average towards the 6-hole. He’s a better runner than he looks, above average underway. Also shows above average raw power, as the ball jumps off his bat in BP. I still believe he best profiles behind the plate where he has the hands, arm and feet to excel, and it would take some pressure off of his bat.” Regardless of his performance this summer, I’m still optimistic about Lavey as a prospect and see him as a later in Day Two talent and future pro backstop.
