8/26/17 6-foot, 145-pound right-hander worked out of low 3/4 arm slot. Fastball sat 80-81 touching 82 and was cut to glove side. Curveball at 69-72 had 11/5 shape with late bite. Change up was thrown at fastball arm speed and showed subtle arm side fade. All pitches were commanded. Mechanically, Kerns hides ball well and arm angle creates deception. Delivery was repeatable, balanced and showed good rhythm. Arm action is long and loose. Based on overall presentation strength gains have potential to add considerable velocity.

6/14/17 Lean, 6-foot, 145-pounder lands slightly closed and pitches out of a three-quarter slot. Fastball sat 79-81 and projects for more given his loose arm action and potential for strength gains. Also featured a big curveball at 69-71 with some shape to it. Right-handed hitter starts open and strides slightly closed, creating an armbar. Was pull-oriented during his BP round, but generally stayed in the middle of the field during game action. Ran a 7.26 60-yard dash and recorded 84 mph exit velocity.  Defensively, he took direct lines to the baseball, necessitating, at time, that he reset his feet in order to make throws. Logged 76 mph arm strength across the diamond from a low slot with whippy arm.

1/28/17 6-foot, 145-pound two-way prospect. Primary pitcher sat 79-81 from a 3/4 arm slot. Showcased a quick, loose arm action with above average balance throughout. Fastball displayed arm side run. 69 mph curveball showed tight, late break and 72 mph changeup was thrown at fastball arm speed with similar fade action. Right-handed hitter starts from a square stance and initiates his swing with a lift-and-replace stride. Arm bar leads to length in the swing with a bat exit velocity of 79 mph. Ran a 7.45 60-yard dash and showcased 79 mph arm strength across the diamond from his shortstop position.
