6/7/16 Goodnight was named the OVAC 3A Player of the Year hitting .486 with 5 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs. The Penn State signee drove in 25 and was a perfect 26 for 26 in stolen base attempts. For good measure Goodnight also went 5-0 with a 1.34 ERA on the mound.
2/7/16 The 6-foot-2, 188-pound Penn State recruit didn’t have the loudest tools at the Super 60, but he demonstrated a level of across-the-board polish that far exceeded most of his peers. Offensively, he delivered two of the more consistent rounds of BP, back-spinning line drives to all fields. He maintains excellent balance and rhythm throughout, level path, loose, athletic hands, while consistently repeating his swing; registered 99 mph exit velocity. He showed much of the same level of consistency in the field. True middle infield actions, fields the ball with rhythm and tempo, soft, reliable hands, plays through the ball well, showed ability to throw the ball with carry at different angles, 86 mph across the infield. Moves with confidence and without excess; clearly knows his way around the baseball field. Also ran a 6.96 60.
2/7/16 Goodnight impressed with solid measurables across the board at the Super 60 Pro Showcase. The Penn State recruit displayed a soft glove hand and solid range with enough arm strength to play immediately on the left side of the infield. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed hitter has a quiet set-up and his hands work well through contact. He has some length to his frame and should continue to add strength. Add in Goodnight's 6.88 foot speed and it is easy to envision the Linsly School senior making an early impact as a Nittany Lion.
Goodnight hit .371 as a varsity starter as a freshman in 2013. He has been selected to the WWBA All Tournament Team the past two summers, helping to lead USA Elite to the Sweet 16. Along the way Goodnight hit .458 going 11 for 24. His performance led to an invitation to the PG Underclass All-American Games in San Diego.
Goodnight competed at the USA Baseball NTIS in Cary, NC as part of the Mid-Atlantic 17U Team, and also as part of the Mid-Atlantic / Capital Team that played against TaiPei China 18U National Team in a two game exhibition series last summer.
He hit .458 with 7 doubles, a triple, two home runs and 25 RBI as a junior in 2015. Goodnight stole 23 bases in 23 attempts and was named the OVAC 3A Player of the Year.
Goodnight has been selected to represent the Chicago Cubs in the East Coast Pro Event. This year the event will take place at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, FL, spring training site for the Yankees. The event will run from July 27th thru July 30th.
