6’ 140-pound slim frame. Toland is an intriguing prospect with a clean arm and good mechanics to get the most out of his body. Lead leg block allows him to work into and up over his front leg to let his legs drive the delivery. He has a quick arm, which will start to be reflected in velo as he gets stronger. His ¾ arm slot produces a fastball up to 79 MPH with late arm side run, keeping hitters off of the barrel. More comfortable with his change that has hard fade with good arm speed at 70-72. Has a chance to be a future plus pitch. Spins breaking ball well, but tries to fight over the top of it, rather than letting his natural arm slot allow him to throw more of a sweeping breaking ball.

6/6/18 - 5-foot-11, 140-pounds. Toland is starting to make a big jump, despite his still very thin frame. Significant projection remaining. Very long stride, holds counter rotation of the torso into foot plant, separates well. Big scap load during the pick up phase. Aggressively extends trunk forward into ball release. Sat 76-79 mph with his fastball from a ¾ arm slot. Fastball life varied quite a bit, sometimes running and occasionally cutting to his glove side. Threw an overhand curveball at 65-66 mph that was one of the better breaking balls at the entire event with feel to throw it both in and below the zone. The pitch features very tight spin and sharp downer break. Also showed a change up at 70-72 with solid sinking action. Very interesting follow as LHP with present feel and future projection.

1/7/18 - Thin 5-foot-11, 140-pound frame with high waist. Two-way prospect showed and projects best on the mound where he worked 75-76 with his fastball. Some slight funk in the back side of his arm action, but did a solid job repeating and filling up the zone, using a high front side. Early Pronator. 62-63 mph curveball showed downward break and backed up at times. Tended to bury 69-70 mph changeup. Offensively, hits from wide base, with short hand load and slight uphill path. Rarely gets extension. 76 mph exit velocity. Threw 74 mph from first base with long arm action.
