A lean 6-foot-1, 180 pound right hander, Mayer is still developing physically and may not be done growing. He’s got long legs and arms both capable of adding strength in the next few seasons. The arsenal consists of a fastball and curveball for now, though he will likely look to develop a third offering in the coming seasons. The delivery comes over the top, arm is super clean on the back side. The front glove is strong, has some pull and lean to it, could stay on it a tick longer. The fastball was 77-79 mph with tail to it, sink when he puts it lower in the zone. Showed comfort moving up and down with it to change eye levels. The curveball had two plane movement at 68-71 mph. With arm being so effortless, changeup looks to be a pitch down the road. Went to it at different points in the count in game action. Good mound presence. The backside lower half could be used more, will help with velocity and will take any added pressure of the back of the arm. As his repertoire develops as expected, he is someone to watch out for.
