10/30/16
Stocky right-handed pitcher that threw the ball very well at New Haven. The fastball touched 84 with minimal arm side run. The spin pitch has the makings of being an out pitch, sat at 69 mph, showing good depth to the pitch. The changeup is a work in progress. 1.0 to the plate out of the stretch as handling the run game won’t be an issue. The delivery is repeated, the arm swing is long on the back side and the slot is a tick above ¾. Cleaning up the tracking of the front shoulder and minimizing the glove side pull will help him reach his full potential.
11/15/15
Second PBR event for Michael, a right-handed pitcher, he works out of a leg raise that has some coil and hands are set high up towards his head. The arm works well, it’s clean, free and has some whip to it. The stride is slightly shorter and tends to get across his body. The fastball was 76-78, shows solid late action to it, at times jumps out of his hand. The spin pitch is by far his best pitch, it’s thrown at 66-67, the shape, tilt and spin are all there to be an out pitch. The changeup is thrown correctly with good fade to armside, the velocity was 71-72. The makings are here for him to take a jump, needs to clean up the front side direction and after some time off from throwing, I can see the velocity climbing a bit in the springtime.
8/26/15
At 5-foot-8, 160-pounds, the frame is a little smaller, but is solid with some strength to him. Off the mound, is a right hander, comes at you from a high-¾ slot. The arm action is short and quick. The fastball was 78-80 with life and more to it, poured in there to both sides. The curveball has proper spin and tilt to it, was thrown at 68-69. Showed good feel for change, was at 74-75. At the plate, hits from right side, hands are loose and ball jumps off his bat. More of a pull/front foot hitter at this point, needs to get foot down sooner, shows pop. The tee exit velocity was 80, ran a 4.65 down the line. Swung the bat very well in the game, collected 3 hits. Michael competes, and has a feel on how to pitch, needs strength, is someone to see next spring.
