6/20/17

5-foot-11, 167 pounds, Marchetti is still in the infancy of his physical development, with plenty of room to strengthen his profile. After an impressive freshman campaign, Nicholas Marchetti should be on all radars as one of the better up the middle prospects in the state of Connecticut. His 4.6 home-to-first is not jaw dropping, but adequate for now and has the chance to improve. His arm is already average for a high school player with three more seasons to ramp it up. Showed a good feel for shortstop, though a move to third or second base is possible depending on the maturation process. The footwork will only become more polished as he continues his high school career, potential for a well above average defensive package. At the dish, Marchetti employs a line drive, spray to all fields approach. Again, general physical development should provide gap-to-gap power in the coming seasons. There is little extra movement in the swing. His feet begin shoulder width apart with his wrists above the letters. As the pitch comes in he drops into position as the lead foot steps into the ball, letting the wrists natural rock into place, propelling the bat through the strike zone. As the approach is refined, the tools progress along normal development lines, and he becomes a more polished product, Marchetti could vie for the top spot amongst shortstops in CT when all's said and done. Off the mound has simple balanced delivery throughout. The arm has average length on the back, it's clean and works fluidly. Loses some leverage in the gather position, staying taller throughout will help with velocity of fastball. The fastball was clocked at 78-81 mph, needs to gain control with it more. The breaking ball has velocity, clocked at 67-69 mph, has depth and tilt to it. The changeup has feel to it at 72 mph. One of the overall better players in the class of 2020

Home - First: 4.6
Exit Velocity: 77 mph
Arm Velocity: 79 mph

10/30/16

Potential two-way prospect at a high level. The bat had the best tee exit velocity of the day, 89 mph. The set up is even and slightly open with his feet, minimal movement of them as the ball approaches. The back elbow is high, the path is flat to the ball and the strength of the barrel is good. Ran a 4.6 down the line on his dig. The glove is solid at shortstop and the footwork in appropriate. Threw 73 mph across the diamond. On the mound, showed a long clean plus ¾ arm slot. The delivery is athletic and the direction of his feet are good. Would like to see him keep the front knee closed a bit longer prior to foot strike and minimize the glove side pull of target. The potential is very good with this guy, fastball touched 77 mph with good life and action. The spin pitch has legit rotation , sitting at 65 mph. The changeup has the makings of being a good one, sitting at 70 mph. Legit prospect based on what I saw.
