8/6/14 - Cortez is an athletic 6-foot, 170-pound left-hand hitting first baseman/catcher.  Tall set-up, slightly open stance at the plate, strides inline, smooth hand load.  Short bat path, easy swing, loose hands, maintains balance, finishes with extension, line drive hitter, oppo approach.  Exit velocity 72 mph, 4.28 home to first base from the left side.  Went 2-for-4 in the game.  Catching showed quick, athletic footwork.  Short over the top throwing motion, all throws near the bag, 71 mph throwing velocity, 1.98-2.25 pop times.

2/21/14 – Cortez is a 6-foot, 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher. Offensively, Cortez has good bat speed and a line drive approach.  He has a short stride and good balance throughout his swing.  Cortez had an exit velo of 67 MPH.  During the defensive evaluations, Cortez had an exit velo of 68 MPH.  He has a quick, clean exchange and soft hands. Cortez had pop-times between 2.19 and 2.23 with accurate throws.  He ran a 4.48 home-to-first.
