8/9/17

6-foot-3, 195 pounds, projectable frame, starting to fill out but room to continue doing so. Strong lower half to tap into. With more physical development, he could see another velocity bump heading into his senior spring. Throws from a ¾ slot with a coil in the delivery. Lead leg heads towards third base before re-centering with his release, throwing across his body. Minor mechanical tweaks could help improve his command, but showed the ability to repeat the delivery and work both of his offerings in the zone. Sat 77-79 mph with his fastball, but touched as high as 81 mph. The pitch has plus sink to it and rides in on right handers. Consistently missed barrels, inducing weak contact. The curveball has 12/6 shape with late break. Worked the breaking ball between 63-65 mph. Adding some more velocity to the pitch will make it a nightmare for opposing hitters. Will need to add a third pitch to his repertoire as a show me against left handed hitters. Overall, Herlihy has the desired physical attributes of a starting pitcher, and refining his mechanics will help pay dividends. With another offseason of improvement, could be primed for a big senior year.

6-foot-3, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, threw very well at the event. The fastball has boar and sink to it, sitting at 83 mph. The spin pitch is 67 mph, correct in shape. More fastball hand speed is needed to the spin pitch. The changeup is a work in progress. Pitches out of a ¾ arm slot, almost a slinger slot. The ball moves all over the place. Has a coil and turn at the top of the lift, glove comes across the face of the hitter as he gets into foot strike. Would like to see him be more direct with the tracking of his front shoulders, as they are a bit rotational at this point. Like his stuff and he should only continue to improve. Solid outing at the event as he pounded the strike zone for the most part.
