7/19/16

Physical right-handed hitting catcher who has improved a bunch since I last saw him. Behind the dish, showed a pop time of 2.2 as the transfer and footwork need to continue to develop. The receiving needs to soften a little but showed the ability to block and secure the catch appropriately. Threw 72 mph from behind the dish, as he has arm strength. Showed the ability to handle first base as well, feet and glove are playable there. At the plate, he is strong, tee exit velocity of 80 mph. The swing is a long to contact, he needs to free up his hands to tap into his strength. Hits with a high hand approach, with a pick up and put down of the front foot as the ball approaches. I think he needs to spread out and use his hands to initiate his strength. Ran a 4.7 on his dig to first base.

2/20/16
6-foot, 215-pound athletic, physical body frame. A right-handed hitting catcher. The stance is even, shoulder width apart. The bat is flat on his shoulder, gets good separation, hands get back and stride is straight, gaining ground, could be a bit softer. The path is level through the zone and has a two handed finish. The tee exit velocity was 78 mph. Behind the plate, the setup is balanced and relaxed, gets behind the ball well when receiving. The arm path is short on the backside, has more in there could let the arm come through all the way, but stops it a bit early. Clocked at 71 mph, pop times were 2.15-2.19. Feet worked well, could close down the front-side a tick more. Ran a 4.66, had a good workout.
6/30/15
On the mound, throws from a high-¾ arm slot with some effort in the delivery. There is downhill plane on his 72 mph fastball. The breaking ball has the right shape and spin at 63. Threw a changeup at 66. The bat is long and flat and continues to show improvements, tee exit velocity of 71 mph. A bit more direct with his hands will help, as well as getting his front foot calmed down. Behind the plate, had a pop time of 2.18, as his feet need to improve during the transfer. Showed an arm strength 70 from back there.

6/23/15
Right-handed hitting catcher who also can play first base. The frame is muscular and he plays the game hard. Ran a 4.88 down the line, showed flat bat with an even based set-up. The swing is a bit long but is flatter since I last saw him. Showed a 76 mph arm and a tee exit velocity of 78.  The receiving behind the plate needs some cleaning, but he sets up big and has the tools. 2.05 pop time and improving. Moves well at first and can handle the bag, would be fine playing at first in a game.

3/8/15
6-foot, 189-pound big, strong build. On the mound he starts with his knees bent then a slow tempo delivery that lands slightly closed. Throws from a high-¾ slot that he releases by his ear with his fastball sitting 68-70 mph. Shows a 12/6 curveball with good depth at 60-61 mph. Has good arm speed on his changeup at 63-64 mph with fade to it. From behind the plate he tends to stand straight up on his transfer and flies open on his throws. Pop times ranging between 2.26-2.36 and 65 mph velocity to second base. Right-handed hitter with some strength in his swing. Little leg kick with strong lower ½ and moves his back foot on contact. Registered top exit velocity of 69 mph off a tee and ran 7.57-60.

2/16/15
Rumor on the street is this players was sick all night but still competed in the workout. As a positional player, he worked out behind the dish, showing a short arm path and a pop time of 2.13. The arm strength was 67 from the catching position. The feet and transfer will clean up and help him improve all his times and throws. Ran a 7.57. The bat was strong and he throws the barrel to the ball well. Tee exit velocity of 72. The set-up is good and it allows him to use his hands nicely. On the mound, he threw from a high-¾ slot and the fastball sat at 73. His secondary stuff is good, as the changeup had the correct action and sat at 67. The spin had very good shape and form, sitting at 62. If he can minimize the effort in his delivery his stuff will take a jump. Good looking athlete at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds.
