Full bodied 5-foot-11 210 pound catcher who ran a slightly improved 8.12 60 and 4.91 home-to-1B. Offensively- Spread stance with an up-down stride; straight back load of the hands with the bat in the 45 degree angle range. Balanced lower half with aggression; clean stroke into the zone with an elevated one arm finish. Consistent line drive results with some gap potential; best he's looked at the past 3 events. Exit velocity of 89 MPH equaled his previous high. Run producer projection. Defensively- Compact setup; efficient with footwork and transfer. High arm slot, occasionally tried overthrowing resulting in less carry. Up 1 MPH to 75 MPH with pop ranges dropping slightly to 2.10-2.19. Solid all around player who will hit from the catching position.
Chillino, currently ranked as the 18th best 2017 catcher, stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs in at a solid 210 pounds, ran a 5.15 from home to first. Offensively- Starts with a square athletic base, knees more than shoulder width apart with the knees bent, hands are above the back shoulder with the barrel of the bat parallel to the ground. Initiates the swing with a toe tap of the front foot, moderate stride, while the hands are loaded straight back with the barrel of the bat elevating to 45 degrees and having a slight wrap to the pitcher. During batting practice showed the ability to take the ball on the inner third of the plate and drive it from the pull side line to the pull side gap. Recorded an exit velocity of 86 MPH but has been as high as 89 MPH at previous events. Defensively- Square primary athletic setup, weight evenly disbursed, elbow above the left thigh with the glove in front of the left shin guard. Receives the ball with quiet hands, moving athletically to the ball, working the glove under the ball on the low pitches and working from outside the ball on pitches to the corners giving very good presentation. Showed a quick transfer, from the center of the body, along with quick feet which resulted in a plus release. Throws showed good accuracy and carry, but could show even more carry with an ability to get some more drive from the back side, as the back leg lifts a little cutting off the rotation and torque. Recorded a best pop time of 2.01, (ranging between 2.01-2.08), with an arm velocity of 74 MPH.
Chillino checks in at a compact 5-foot-11 200 pounds. The catcher ran a 8.18 60. Offensively- Starts in a spread stance with feet even and outside the shoulders; short load with barrel slightly behind his head. Short stride with weight staying centered. Mostly flyball/line drive contact, could benefit from additional separation of his hands from his body to free up his swing path. Power potential is there with an exit velocity of 89 MPH. Defensively- Did not throw due to injury. Compact setup; soft receiver that stays on top of the ball. Proper angles on kickouts, bodies up the ball.
