The first thing that immediately stands out about Weston Markle is the frame. Great size for a pitcher, with a strong lower half, lean, with room to add more strength to his 6-foot-5 frame as he matures. Arm works from a 3/4 slot, can repeat delivery, although looks a little stiff at times in his delivery. Fastball sits in low 80's with some running action, but displayed a very impressive curveball which breaks late with 12/6 shape. Showed signs of pitchability, threw breaking ball consistently for strikes in any count. Curve ball had good depth, buckled a few Ontario Yankee batters during 16U PBLO Playoff Finals. Showed a good feel for changeup with some arm side action. Moving forward, Markle looks to have more in the tank from a velocity standpoint and should continue to learn how to utilize his size effectively on the mound. Overall, a solid pitching prospect who will be exciting to watch develop.

Ideal pitchers frame at 6-foot-5, 185-pounds, lean and long with room to add strength to frame. Arm has length in back and works out front to 3/4 slot. Repeats delivery, stays tall over the rubber as fastball topped out at 81 mph. Believe there is more in the tank from a velocity standpoint for Markle. Off speed stuff had feel and curveball was more advanced with 12/6 shape at 64-65 mph, ability to add velocity to breaking ball with create more depth and sharpness. Changeup worked at 72-73 mph and stayed mostly to arm side in pen. Markle projects with size and no red flags in delivery to be a prime candidate to add velocity and continue to develop on the mound. Will be a follow this summer to see how he develops.

Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Has some moving parts but it comes together more often than not. Good athlete, mobile, separates well and arm is  typically on time. Not a ton of effort in there. More in the tank.
Fastball: Easier velocity, sitting 82-86 mph. Would need rapsodo to confirm numbers but appears to be a high spin rate guy as velo wasn’t overwhelming but got on hitters all day.
Curveball: 11/5 big breaker that he used to get ahead or put away.
Changeup: Above average offering that has late fading action.
Pitchability: Three-pitch righty with feel for the zone.
Additional Comments: Starter profile that I wouldn’t be surprised to see near or at the top of the Tri-C rotation. Competes in the zone with quality stuff.
