3/19/19

Estimated 5-foot-10, 170-pound durable frame. The right-hander throws from a high ¾ slot with a long arm swing. His fastball was 83-85 mph early and 81-83 mph, later on, flashing some arm-side run inside to righties. Threw a curveball at 72-75 mph with 11-5 shape, primarily to his glove side for swing and misses outside the zone, flashing the ability to land in the zone for called strikes. Also threw a slider at 77-80 mph with 10-4 action, mixing it in the zone and outside the zone for a swing and miss and threw it backdoor to righties.

05.21.17

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound, right-hander showed pitchability from two slots. His fastball has arm side run and sink from 83-85 mph. His curveball was 71-72 mph, while his slider was 73-76 mph. The sophomore also threw a changeup that flashed arm side fade from 78-79 mph. Smith has an athletic, max effort delivery with good energy as he gets down the mound, the arm stroke is quick and repeatable from both his high-¾ and lower-¾ slot. With his pitchability and ability to throw two pitches for strikes from two different arm slots, Smith will make a nice addition to a college pitching staff.
01.16.17
5-foot-10, 170-pound frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with long, loose arm action. Creates good leverage with lower half hip turn down the mound with an aggressive delivery. His fastball ranged from 86-88 mph with some life at the bottom of the zone. Smith has good feel for his slider at 74-75 mph with 10-4 shape. He throws a straight changeup from 73-74 mph.
The right-handed hitter starts from a tall, balance, slightly open stance. He starts his load bringing his hands back and down, rocking his front knee-to-back knee in a low, hover-like, short stride. Lands square with his hands back with a slight arm bar. Good lower-half transfer as his weight shifts into his front side, hands glide behind his back shoulder before he throws the barrel through contact. Showed pull-side power during batting practice with an exit velocity of 88 mph. In the outfield, Smith throws with athleticism from a long, high-¾ arm-stroke showing accuracy to bases with carry at 87 mph. Ran a 7.59 60-yard dash.

10.8.16
5-foot-9, 155-pound frame. Works mostly from high-¾ slot but will occasionally drop down to a side-arm slot. From the high-¾ slot his fastball ranges from 82-85 mph, topping out at 86 mph with some arm side run and sink. His breaking ball ranges from 71-73 mph with good 11-5 shape. From the side-arm slot the fastball velocity stays in the 82-83 mph range, while the slider turns to a slurve with lateral break away from right-handed hitters at 68-69 mph. Good all around feel for pitching, throws strikes, commands two pitches and holds runners. Smith topped out at 87 mph during the outfield portion of the workout and posted 88 mph on his exit velo.
