MD Preseason All State
Solid athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 160-pounds. Hits from the right side with a square stance showing some athleticism. Small pickup and put down to stride, lands slightly closed, and hands load down with a vertical bat. Swing is longer with uphill tilt, high two hand finish, and pull-side tendencies. Exit velocity was 80 mph. Attacks the ball directly in the infield with solid glove presentation and a clean exchange at center. Throws from a three-quarter arm slot with a quick short arm action. Positional velocity was 72 mph. Home-1st time was 4.33. Starts with a big side step delivery, shifting sides of the pitching rubber, to a solid gathered balance point over the rubber. Balance point is nice and athletic and moves to a down and out stride getting somewhat upright in the move down the mound. Shoulders are level and lands slightly closed at foot strike. Arm circle is average and arm showed some quickness getting through and throwing from a three-quarter arm slot. Fastball sat at 75-78 and got up to 79 mph. Curveball had late 11/5 break at 65-67 mph and arm speed lagged a little bit. Changeup had solid arm speed, but slot tended to drop on the changeup. The changeup sat at 70-72 mph with fade.
Selby is 5-10 with a lanky frame, hits from the right side from an upright athletic stance, 60 time was a 7.44. Short stride forward, drops hands a bit as he loads, good rhythm to swing. Decent lower half and good balance throughout swing. Short swing with a level path and a pull approach, exit velocity was 70. At third base, average footwork and average hands, quick exchange and release. Short arm action, throwing from a low three-quarters arm slot, infield velocity of 71. On the mound, throws from a tall and fall delivery with a short, loose arm action from a three-quarters arm slot. Shoulders are uphill and online as he strides to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball was 70-72 with some late run. Curveball had 11/5 break, running 56. Change-up was 61-63 with decent arm action and sink to it.
