A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.

Scouting Notes: One of the more electric arms we saw on the day. Obvious athleticism on the mound. Up to 87mph and the separator was the breaking ball. Spun one of, if not the best breaking ball we saw of the entire three day event. Absolute hammer. If he can prove he can be in the zone consistently he will be off the board in a hurry. Fastball: 85-87mph. Fastball Spin Rate: 2088-2135 Breaking Ball: 72-73mph. Breaking Ball Spin Rate: 2430-2466 Changeup:

Hit: Right-handed hitter that starts in a balanced stance. Uses a leg kick timing trigger during back load to hands. All the tools are there. Fast bat with excellent acceleration. Once path cleans up he should see much more natural ball flight. Power: Gap pop. Offensive Projection: Multiple Roles. Max BP Exit Velocity: 82 mph Max BP Distance: 270 ft Field: Good athlete in the outfield that plays with solid tempo and developing ball skills. Throw: Arm is top tool. Ball jumps out of hand. Defensive Projection: Multiple Roles.

Body Type: 5-foot-11, 160-pound very athletic frame. Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Uptempo delivery with obvious athleticism on the mound. Arm works through an over the top slot that creates a tough plane for hitters. Drop and drive type. Fastball: 80-83 mph. Ball jumps out of the hand. Fastball was up to 83 mph with low 90s spin efficiency. Curveball: 65-67 mph. Bigger shape than the slider with some depth to it. When he got on top of it, it was really sharp. Slider: 73-74 mph. Hammer of a breaking ball when in the zone. Spins it will with late, sharp bite to it. Pitchability: Arguably the most feel for the zone we’ve seen him have. Additional Comments: One of the top arms in the state stuff wise that dominated in his outing.
8/1/18 The nastiest stuff on the mound in Game 1 came from Jackson (Ponch) Gaich. Very compact, fast arm through a high-¾ slot. Obvious athleticism on the hill. Ball jumps out of hand with fastball sitting 77-80 mph. Slider is a legitimate out pitch showing late, sharp action across the plate at 66-68 mph. Dominated hitters in outing producing regular swing and miss/weak contact. Going to be a good one. Younger brother of one of my favorite players in ‘19 class, Yale commit AJ Gaich. Two-way prospect. In the outfield he plays under control with fluid actions. After his performance on the mound it shouldn’t come as a surprise that arm shows as an above average tool. Compact stroke at the plate with line drive abilities.
7/10/18 The 5-foot-10, 145-pound right handed arm with room to mature physically on the mound showed very well on this day. Slower tempo delivery using an easy leg lift while requiring regular effort. Athleticism present throughout the delivery. Throws from a near high ¾ slot with a short arm action that shows some quickness. Evident arm strength for this age. Fastball shows life through the zone with occasional cut at 74-76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with gradual break while being able to be thrown for a strike at 62-64 mph. Best offspeed offering is the slider. Shows an advanced feel for the pitch that works on a 10/4 plane with depth. Likes to pitch off the slider which can be thrown to both RHH and LHH early in the count. High baseball IQ.
