2021 MLB Draft: The 6-foot-5, 195-pound lanky-bodied righty served has the Commodores' high-leverage reliever, recording nine sevens in 41.1 innings over 27 appearances. He has a super-quick arm that delivers a spicy fastball up to 97 and also impresses with a sharp, swing-and-miss curveball. Though inconsistent, when it's released on time, the 77-79 hammer shows as a plus pitch. Currently more of a thrower than a pitcher, Murphy is loose and athletic, still just scraping the surface of his potential after missing all of his freshman season due to Tommy John surgery.
6’5” 190. I really liked this guy. Tall and strong with some room to fill out. Live FB which explodes at the plate. FB 93-97 most 96-97. Threw the ball by hitters and no one got a good piece of him. Dominated his two innings with mostly FBs. Slider 82-83 tight sharp late with some diving action. Avg pitch now but shows flashes of a plus slider. Ability to repeat delivery and throw strikes. Tough competitor who can get things done. See as a quick return reliever who can pitch innings 7-9 at ML level. I would be surprised if he didn’t go by the 2nd round. Some teams can have this guy on their ML roster in a year. If you tried to stretch him out as a starter he would fit in as a 4-5 guy in the rotation. (Slowik)

With a super quick arm he fired his spicy heater up to 97 mph and also impressed with a sharp, swing/miss curveball. The breaker was hit or miss, but when it was released on time, the 77-79 mph hammer showed as a plus pitch. Next up on the mound for the Commodores was Luke Murphy who overpowered the Wolverines for a quick 1-2-3 inning with a 94-96 mph fastball, an 83 mph hammer curveball and flashed an 85 mph changeup. Murphy is a 6-foot-5, long bodied redshirt freshman who sat out all of the 2019 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
