10/23/16- Florida recruit. 6-foot-2, 204 pounds with a strong, athletic build. Throws out of the high ¾ arm slot and repeats well. Fastball sat 88-90 mph with some sink, Curveball sat at 73-74 mph.
10/08/16- The Florida commit was impressive again on the mound with a good pace while working down in the zone with his fastball that ranged from 89-91 mph. There is some effort, but the arm is very quick along with a strong, athletic and projectable build.
05/28/16- Florida commit. Armstrong is a very physical, athletic 6-foot-3, 200-pound right-handed pitcher and switch-hitting shortstop (also pitches left-handed). On the mound worked 88-90 mph from the right side and 80-83 mph from the left side with a controllable breaking ball from both sides. Hitting left-handed can get a little long, but when he stays closed and works the middle of the field he has a very quick bat with some present power. Could have some of the highest potential in the 2018 class and look forward to seeing how he continues to develop this summer.
4/28/16- Florida commit who stands at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds with a long, athletic, lean, and projectable body with some strength. He is ranked currently ranked 3rd in Florida and 5th overall, while being the top-ranked pitcher overall. What separates him from most are his sound, repeatable mechanics and his ability to stay over his back side. He stays under control and he has a quick, high ¾ arm action. Against Cardinal Mooney he came into pitch in the sixth inning after playing shortstop the entire game. He did not get to properly warm up and was mostly throwing out of the stretch. That being said, he settled in at 87-88 mph and showed good feel for his curveball and changeup. His curveball was 70-73 mph and has good depth and a late 11/5 break. For his changeup, he kept the same arm speed as his fastball and located it down in the zone. As a starter, Armstrong usually sits 88-91 mph.
12/11/15- Committed to Florida.
9/12/15 - 6-foot-3, 185 pound RHP/SS with a tall loose athletic body. Has good infield actions with solid mechanics and soft hands. Light n his feet for a big guy. Lacks ideal range for the middle of the infield but would be a very good 3B down the road. Good left handed swing with strength and quickness already. Good balanced finish. Has present power with much more to come. Made a lot of hard contact. In 3 at bats he smoked a line drive to RF for a single, smoked a line drive to RF for a double, and got robbed on a deep fly ball to CF. Ran a 7.39 60. On the mound his fast ball was 87-90 with late sink and good downhill tilt. Curve ball was 72-74 mph with tight ¾ tilt. Flashed ML average. The change up was 71-74 mph with good arm speed and fade to it. He has a big take away and lands slightly across his body. Strike thrower with all 3 pitches. A legitimate 2 way guy. Should become a 2018 draft. Has good blood lines. Father pitched in the big leagues. Older brother was a first round pitcher out of Vanderbilt.
7/24/14 - Armstrong has a long frame at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds and hits with a crouched stance. He has a relatively short swing despite long levers. On the mound, he sat in the low 80s and showed occasional downhill plane. His curveball had decent shape and sat around 69 mph.
