17th Annual Springfield Red and Blue Classic Tournament Schedule

The 17th Annual Springfield Red and Blue Classic gets under way this afternoon, with 12 teams participating, 11 of which hail from the Springfield area, and one school (Kearney) traveling south from the Kansas City metro area.

In looking at the field of 12, the most impressive teams so far this season are Parkview and Willard. Parkview has an offense that can be expolsive at times, and can score runs in bunches. They have also been shut down a few times by quality pitching. Willard shows good balance of piching, defense, and has the ability to manufacture runs when needed, and could be the most dangerous team in the group.

The wildcards in the tournament are Nixa, Kickapoo, and Joplin. All three schools have notched some quality wins, but have also had a few tough losses. Don't be surprised to see one these teams get on a roll and make a run for the tournament championship.

Overall, the field looks pretty evenly matched and that should make for some good competition.
