Luca Bertolasio
Uncommitted '23 SS/OF Luca Bertolasio (Hickory) turned some heads this preseason with a great day at our Preseason All-State - Northwest event. Bertolasio is 5-foot-10, 165lbs with raw athleticism and lean muscle. He is a wiry player with quick twitch in nearly everything he does on the field. Bertolasio led the NW event in the 60 yard dash with a blazing 6.30 laser timed 60 yard dash. At the plate, Bertolasio works a flat swing that comes from below the shoulder as he drops his hands during the load. Using a strong lower half, Berolasio was able to post a 95.2 MPH max exit velo via Trackman. In the infield, Bertolasio moves well to the ball and gets around it enough to have good momentum to and through the ball and into his throw across the diamond. He was able to post an 81 MPH infield velo across the diamond from short. There is more left in the arm, which brings up the question of whether or not Bertolasio would be a better OF than a SS. With the foot speed, strength at the plate, and looming arm strength, there is a great possibility that Bertolasio could turn into a high level outfielder.
