As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

The Angola Hornets and Head Coach Jerry McDermid look to build upon their 2013 success.  Last spring Angola shared a Northeast Corner Conference Championship and won a sectional title.  They return a total of 7 starters and 3 arms.  RHP/SS Markus Arnold returns for his senior year after going 7-3-2 as a junior. In 2013 he posted a 2.65 ERA in 63.3 IP while striking out 55 batters.  McDermid will look upon two seniors for contributions offensively.  Senior 2B Tyler Kennedy hit .370 last season with a .459 OBP, while senior 1B Justin Davis returns after hitting .318 as junior with 18 RBI and 3 HR.  Craig Nofziger, a 5-foot-9, 150 pound Junior, will play a key role up the middle defensively.  Last spring he finished with a perfect 1.000 Fld%.  Nofziger should also contribute on the mound after going 2-2 last year with a 3.84 ERA in 23.7 IP. Sophomore Jacob Roddy and Junior Nick Chao are also expected to play key roles in the Hornets success this spring.  Roddy hit .309 as a freshman with 5 2B and 9 RBI.  Chao finished the 2013 campaign hitting .298 with 3 2B, 3B, HR, and 12 RBI.  On the mound the righty pitched in 16.7 innings and struck out 22.
