As we prepare for our 2014 high school preseason coverage, we are going to take a quick glance at teams from across the state.

OUTLOOK:

Head Coach Randy Kerns and the Mississinewa Indians believe they have enough talent this spring to compete for both a CIC and Sectional Championship.  The Indians finished five games over .500 in 2013 and were 4-3 in conference play, and will be looking to improve those records with a talented group of juniors.  Aaron Arrendale will be the No. 1 on the mound this year for Mississinewa.  the 6-foot-2 junior earned 1st Team All CIC honrs last year as a sophomore with a 1.78 ERA.  Cleaning up for the Indians is senior 1B Alex Morrison.  The 6-foot, 230 pound Morrison hit .310 with 20 RBI in 2013.  Junior RHP Austin Kern will be a regular conference starter.  The 5-foot-10, 185 pound righty struck out 31 hitters last spring and posted a 1.13 WHIP.  Perhaps the best overall hitter is junior Brandon Becker.  Becker hit .320 with 7 RBI in 44 ABs last spring.  Coach Kerns says Becker has great plate discipline with the ability to hit to all fields. Two more juniors expected to contribute are OF Cory Markley and 2B Jadin Kelly. Coach Kerns expects Markley to be a middle of the order type hitter, while Kelly is returning from an injury riddled season.
