2018-2019 Prospect Showcase: Outfielders Analysis

On Sunday, September 20th, we hosted the 2018-2019 Prospect Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.  A total of 39 players participated in the event.  Below we analyze the outfielders from the event.

IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER

Jake Dykstra, OF, Lake Central HS, 2019: 5-foot-6, 130 pounds, showcased quick feet in the field with sure hands.  Plays through the baseball well with a clean exchange.  From the OF was 66 mph.  Ran a 7.46-60.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup.  Minimal to no load.  Stride is short, tendency to dive.  Possesses average bat speed with a short, level path to the baseball.  In/out type swing.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 70 mph off the tee.  

Cam Farren, OF Brebeuf HS, 2018: Athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds.  Ran a 7.03-60.  Possesses athletic actions in the field with soft hands and fluid feet.  Exchange is quick and clean and plays through the baseball with athleticism.  Loose arm action from a ¾ slot up to 83 mph with accuracy.  Left handed hitter hits from a balanced stance, loads back with a long stride.  Average bat speed with a short path to the baseball.  Line drive type hitter with some pop to his pull-side.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 77 mph. 

Marcus Gholston, OF, Valparaiso HS, 2018: Strong, athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 187 pounds.  Possesses above average hands in the field with fluid feet.  Exchange is clean and plays through the baseball.  From a long, loose high ¾ arm action was 81 mph from the OF.  Ran a 7.20-60.  At the plate hits from an athletic setup, loads back.  Uses a leg kick.  Possesses good bat speed.  Showcased pop at the plate with projectable gap power.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 81 mph off the tee.  Strong hitter.

Ryan Hackworth, OF, Leo HS, 2019: 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, ran a 7.69-60.  Possesses sure hands defensively.  Moves well, but has the tendency to get flat footed.  Plays through the baseball well.  From a long, high ¾ arm action was 74 mph from the OF.  At the plate hits from a balanced setup, uses a toe tap. Smooth load back, short stride.  Possesses hand speed.  Gets the bat through the zone on a level path.  Pull-side hitter with pop.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 86 mph off the tee.

Steven Molinet, OF, Tecumseh HS, 2019: 5-foot-8, 150 pounder was up to 81 from the OF from a high ¾ slot.  Possesses soft hands defensively with a clean exchange.  Plays through the baseball.  Ran a 7.35-60.  Offensively, hits from a tall, open stance.  Loads back with a long stride.  Shows good balance in his swing.  Above average bat speed with a level path.  Consistently barreled up the baseball during BP producing hard hit line drives.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 84 mph off the tee.   

Alex Scherer, OF, Hamilton Southeastern HS, 2018: Lanky, 6-foot-2, 145 pounds, showcased sure hands in the OF with average actions.  Short arm action at 78 mph with some accuracy. Ran a 7.75-60.  Offensively hits out of a balanced setup with slight load back.  Stride is long.  Good balance in the swing.  Average bat speed with short path to the baseball.  Pull-side hitter.  Recorded a high exit velocity of 73 mph of the tee.
