2019 OHSAA Tournament: Division I District Semifinal - No. 6 Lancaster vs Marysville

Gahanna, OH

The No. 6 team in D-I, Lancaster Golden Gales (25-3), secured a spot in the District Final with a 3-0 win over Marysville Monarchs (15-13). It was a pitchers duel in this one, as hits were hard to come by. Marysville RHP ‘21 Trey Storr found himself in some jams, but always found a way out of them. With the help of his defense, he made it throw 4 1/3 innings scoreless. Lancaster RHP ’20 Casey Finck gave up a hit in the first inning, and then didn’t give up anymore after that. The righty threw 7 scoreless innings for the Gales.

Lancaster threatened with runners on in multiple innings but were unable to score until the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, ’20 Wes Ward was a few feet shy of a grand slam to break the game open, but instead it resulted in a sac fly to get the scoring started. Then ’19 Jake Richards came to the plate and delivered a 2 RBI triple to give the Gales a 3-0 lead and they never looked back. Fink shut the door and the Gales advanced to the finals.

With hits limited for the Monarchs, ’19 Indiana Wesleyan commit Blake Storr had the only hit for the visiting team. The Gales were able to scatter 7 hits in this game from 7 different batters. The Gales left side of the infield played solid defense, making play after play (with maybe the best hair duo in the state). With the help of ’19 Tusculum commit Tyler Monk and Ward, the Gales were able to pull of this victory and continue their season. They will next play Thursday against Hilliard Bradley for the district title.
