Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce the winner of the 2023 Player of the Year Award. PBR Nebraska selects one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

2023: CAMDEN KOZEAL, SS, Millard South

Kozeal’s swing has been described in scouting reports as “a compact barrel slightly uphill path with easy bat speed through the zone” and that “he turns the barrel in a very tight window from the left side”. Or, as PBR’s Midwest Regional Supervisor Rob Allison put it, “ultimately, he just has that ‘it’ factor at the plate.”

The hit tool is wildly effective and it made Kozeal a factor for Millard South this year. He hit .422 with 20 of his 45 hits going for extra bases, leading to that impressive .759 slugging percentage. He swiped 20 bases and played solid defense for the Patriots.

His game has been making impressions. In 2021, the infielder was named to the Future Game team. Playing at Lakepoint in Georgia among the top tier talent from around the country, PBR Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, singled Kozeal out as “the best hitter I saw this week” and was named the event’s MVP.

The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering games at diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of Nebraska.
