Prep Baseball Report has officially updated their class rankings over the span of three weeks, updating the Class of 2024, 2025 and 2026 in their respective states. Our staff will now conduct a deep dive into the rankings and highlight key uncommitted players in each class. 

Today, we take a look into the MD/DE Class of 2026 and highlight an up and coming catcher out of Wootton high school, Kai Schmelzer. An athletic build, the upside to strength addition is present and the makeup certainly looks to Schmelzer staying behind the plate at the next level. Quick, advanced actions with already above average blocking abilities behind the dish is what stuck out to me this summer. Arm strength is still developing and will continue to increase as the body matures. It's a high contact, high average type bat with sneaky pull side strength and the ability to get the barrel to almost any pitch in the zone, showcasing the ability to spray line drives to both gaps. A high baseball IQ, high motor player that has already shown the ability to make a big impact on both sides of the ball.
