2A No. 1 South Spencer Beats 3A No. 2 Jasper for HOF Title

JASPER– The Championship Game of the 2014 Hall of Fame Classic featured a highly ranked matchup between host 3A No. 2 Jasper taking on 2A No. 1 South Spencer. Jasper jumped out to and early lead, but South Jasper scored in each of the first two innings. Craig Shepherd singled to start the bottom of the first and would score later in the inning on a passed ball. Evan Aders brought in the other run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. In the second Ben Moore brought in another run for Jasper singling in Scott Stallwood.

South Spencer cut into the three run deficit with two in the second. Kobe Stephens was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Chandler Roberts followed with a double. Nathan Kuester brought in both runners with a double of his own.

Jasper tacked on one in the bottom of the third with a bad throw to first on a potential double play allowing a run to score giving them a 4-2 lead after three innings.

In the fifth South Spencer capitalized on several Jasper errors, scoring eight runs in the inning. After two errors and a walk that loaded the bases, Malin Webb doubled bringing in two runs to tie things up. Nathan Kuester beat a throw home on a grounder to first scoring the third run. With the bases loaded Isaac Rowan got a RBI on a rare 7-5 put out when the runner on second thought the left fielder caught the ball. Kobe Stephens then singled in a run and another run scored on an error. Roberts and Kuester capped off the inning with back to back RBI singles that gave South Spencer a 10-4 lead in the fifth.

Jasper loaded the bases with one out in both the fifth and the sixth. In the fifth they could not bring a run across and in the sixth a two run double from Spencer Otto cut the deficit to 10-6.

Tyler Schneider provided South Spencer with an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a RBI single scoring Stephens, who tripled to start the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh Schneider closed out the game allowing one walk, sitting down the other three batters he faced to secure a 11-6 win, and giving South Spencer the 2014 HOF Classic Title.
