2A Sectional Preview

Sectional 33: Defending Champ – Hanover Central

This should be one of the most competitive sectionals in 2A. Three different teams have a solid opportunity at winning the title: Wheeler (21-6), Hammond Noll (20-6), and Whiting (16-10). Wheeler and Noll face off in the bye game with the winner likely getting Whiting in the final. Wheeler and Noll split the season series, Whiting beat Wheeler twice, and Noll beat Whiting twice.

Sectional 34: Defending Champ – Culver Community

Hebron (16-8) is a slight favorite with some big wins throughout the year, beating Highland, Wheeler, Kankakee Valley, and Whiting. Rochester (17-9) should also have a good chance to take home the title.

Sectional 35: Defending Champ – Westview

Pretty open sectional, Fremont (15-13), Westview (13-10), and Central Noble (14-11) look to be the top three to have a chance to win the title. Brian Vance will give Central Noble a chance to win any game they are in. Vance is 7-3 with a 3.02 ERA and 63 strikeouts.

Sectional 36: Defending Champ – Eastside (36), Adams Central (38)

Like Sectional 35 this is pretty open. This sectional has been re done and now has two defending sectional champs, Eastside and Adams Central (16-10).  FW Luers (16-9) and South Adams (18-10) are two teams that have a good chance to win the sectional. A big match-up in round one has Adams Central and South Adams facing off.  Eastside is led on the mound by Bryce Yoder (Valpo) who is 8-4 on the year with a 0.97 ERA and 93 strikeouts.

Sectional 37: Defending Champ – Northfield

The bottom half of the bracket will decide the winner. In the first game Northfield (22-5) will face off with Wabash (17-12). The game should see a great pitching match-up between Northfield’s Ryan Keaffaber (7-0, 0.57 ERA, 102 Ks) and Wabash’s Andrew Shepherd (6-3, 1.62 ERA, 83 Ks). The winner will likely get Oak Hill (16-11) and Jordan Hamilton (6-3, 2.70 ERA, 72 Ks). Cass will likely take on whoever comes out of the bottom half.

Sectional 38: Defending Champ – Delphi

This will be another tough sectional to come out of. Seeger (18-7) received the best draw and will be waiting in the championship for either Delphi (18-9) or Clinton Central (16-7). Delphi is led on the mound by Jason Sterrett (6-1, 1.75 ERA) and Ostin Clark (6-2, 3.84 ERA). At the plate Clark has had a big year hitting .382 with six homeruns and 34 RBI. Jeff Scott leads Clinton Central on the mound and at the plate. On the mound he is 7-2 with a 2.52 ERA and at the plate he is hitting .539 with 26 RBI. Brayton Pattison will also be a key arm for CC at 6-1 with a 2.78 ERA. Seeger should be able to keep ace Khole Stephen for the championship game, and he has been tough this year at 10-1 with a 1.20 ERA and 72 strikeouts. Seeger has three players hitting over .400: Dakota Ware (.452, 3 HR, 23 RBI), Zach Stitt (.406, HR, 17 RBI), and Jordan Stover (.403, 24 runs).

Sectional 39: Defending Champ – Taylor

Taylor (16-11) and Alexandria (18-10) are the favorites to win this sectional title. They should collide in  one of the semi-final games. Taylor has had several big wins this year beating Lafayette Harrison, Oak Hill, Clinton Central, and Griffith. Mitch Yeagy leads a very good Alexandria offense hitting .454 with two homeruns, and 16 RBI. Donnie Dinehart (.395, 2 HR, 20 RBI) and Derek Dinehart (.360, 3 HR, 16 RBI) are also key pieces to Alexandria’s offense.

Sectional 40: Defending Champ – Wapahani

Lapel (21-7) will enter the sectional as the clear favorite. On the mound their top three are Evan Mohr (6-4, 2.75 ERA), Brady Cherry (3-0, 3.03 ERA), and Adam Taylor (4-1, 2.53 ERA). Mohr also leads their offense, hitting .413 with 28 RBI. Taylor (.393, 16 RBI) and Dane Mason (.377, 2 HR, 25 RBI) are also key contributor, but they get production from their whole lineup.

Sectional 41: Defending Champ – Centerville

Hagerstown (17-6) and Union County (16-7) look destined to meet in the sectional championship game. Hagerstown has one of the top 2013 arms in the state with RHP Cole Bartlett (84-87).

Sectional 42: Defending Champ – Park Tudor

Park Tudor (20-4) is the favorite to advance behind one of the better 1-2 punches on the mound in 2A with Madison Foster (4-1, 1.25 ERA, 68 Ks) and Kevin Rex (4-1, 3.10 ERA). Chris Eckersley is having a big year at the plate hitting .484 with seven homeruns and 36 RBI. He is one of eight players Park Tudor has hitting over .400. Heritage Christian (14-11) will be the one team that could get in their way. HC Ace Eric Douglass will have to be sharp if these two meet in the championship game.

Sectional 43: Defending Champ –

When Triton Central puts ace Luke Stephenson (2012 PBR #1, Vanderbilt) on the mound there are not many teams that can beat them. Cardinal Ritter has been playing well lately and that winner between those two will likely get a tough Scecina team in the championship game.

Sectional 44: Defending Champ – Covenant Christian (Indy)

Speedway and Cascade (14-8) look destined to meet in one semifinal with the winner probably facing Cloverdale in the championship game. Cascade is led offensively by Alex Arthur who is hitting .403 with six homeruns and 30 RBI. Speedway has a tough ace in Michael McCormick (Navy) who is 6-1 with 1.03 ERA. Andrew Brown (2.19 ERA) and Bryce Pennington (1.95 ERA) give Speedway a lot of pitching depth. Cloverdale has a powerful offense led by Austin Mannan (.471, 6 HR, 46 RBI) and Brian Dale (.329, 8 HR, 22 RBI).

Sectional 45: Defending Champ – North Decatur

This is a wide open sectional.

Sectional 46: Defending Champ – Providence

Henryville (14-12) might be a slight favorite.

Sectional 47: Defending Champ – Linton-Stockton

North Central (Farmersburg) (18-5) will come in as the favorite. On the mound they are led by Evansville commit Connor Strain who is 5-4 with a 0.81 ERA and 73 strikeouts. Daniel Loveall (6-1, 2.91 ERA) and Nolan Kinnett (4-0, 1.75 ERA) will also be key if NC is going to make a sectional run. At the plate they are led by Cole Johnson (.433, HR, 24 RBI) and Strain (.378, HR, 23 RBI). Their toughest test may come in the championship game against Sullivan who they split the season series with.

Sectional 48: Defending Champ – South Spencer

South Spencer (21-6) will come into the section with a bye and is the favorite to win it all. The defending state champs will likely collide with either Evansville Mater Dei or North Posey sectional championship.
