4A North/South Regional Championship Preview

4A North Regional Championship

Sherando at Millbrook, 6:00

Sherando won a hard-fought game against Louisa County, 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors clinched their spot in the State Tournament on a Reid Entsminger walk-off triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sherando has now survived two very tight games in the Regional tournament as they beat Eastern View 1-0 on Monday.

Millbrook posted a dominant win over Amherst County on Wednesday as they extended their winning streak to 22 games and clinched a spot in the State Tournament in Lynchburg. This will be Millbrook’s first appearance in the State Tournament.

These two teams are very familiar with each other, having met three times already this season. Millbrook has won all three meetings but the last two have been tight one-run games. This game has the makings of a spectacular match-up between two rivals.

4A South Regional Championship

Grafton at Hanover, 7:00

Grafton defeated King’s Fork on Wednesday in a back and forth game to clinch their spot in the Regional Championship and a trip to Liberty University for the State Tournament. Evan Sperling (UVA) got off to a rough start on the mound, but settled in late, and hit a go-ahead solo home run in the 6th inning to lead the Clippers to victory.

Hanover advanced with a hard-fought, extra-inning win over Nansemond River on Wednesday, 3-2. With the win, Hanover locks in a return to the State Tournament, where they won the AAA title last year. Hanover got a gutsy outing in the game from senior righty Derek Casey (UVA), who struggled with his command but kept the Hawks in the game. Hanover now holds a 19-2 record on the season, with its only losses occurring during the Hawks’ spring trip.
