Madison County scores 3 in the 6th inning to edge New Hope

Starting pitchers for both teams were in control into the late innings on Thursday night at Madison County High School. 2020 RHP Austin Mills (#51 in the latest 2020 state rankings) got the start for the Madison County Tigers and was very impressive commanding his fastball and was able to mix in his slider when needed. He threw 5 innings before coming out in the top of the 5th with a cramp in his calf. He had 9 K's, allowed 1 hit with 3 walks. New Hope countered with 2021 ambidextrous pitcher Dominic Banas who more than held his own. He went 5.1 innings with 10 K's, 2 BB's and allowed 2 hits on the night. New Hope led 4-2 heading into the home half of the 6th before the Tigers scored three runs to take the lead, which was highlighted by Mills' leadoff homerun over the CF fence. After the Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the 6th, senior Jackson Pugh came in to close the game out as he struck out the side in the 7th. William Thomas and Caleb Lewis each had RBI singles for the Indians while Sam Stapler had an RBI double. In addition to Mills' homerun, junior Cannon Daversa had an RBI double while senior Matthew Glenn had an RBI single as well. Madison County improves 2-1 while New Hope falls to 3-2.
