Alabama Class of 2024 Rankings: Notable Newcomers

PBR Alabama Staff

After a busy summer full of events, the Class of 2024 Player Rankings was long overdue for an update as these players have just started their final year of their high school careers. There were a ton of new names who entered into the fold, as well as a number of others who continue to elevate their game, warranting plenty of movement and expansion (now 215 players) to the list. Most of the same names are still inside the Top-10 from the last update, but there's some shakeup within.

On Wednesday, our staff updated the state’s present senior class formally, expanding the list to feature 215 names with plenty of movement throughout. We detailed the new top-10 extensively inside our official release, which you can find HERE

Today we’re highlighting some names that are new within our rankings, with detailed scout notes from our year-long coverage that consisted of showcases, tournaments, spring looks, etc. These prospects are trending upward as they begin their senior seasons and there’s a handful of them that remain uncommitted, too.

Learn more about a handful of arrow-up 2024 graduates below.

Cam Dyer C / rhp / Houston Academy, AL / 2024

Dyer makes one of the biggest splashes in this update after making a big impression playing in the Class 3A State Championship Series earlier this spring, which his team ultimately won. Listed at 6-foot-4, 195-pounds, the uncommitted senior holds sizable upside on the both ends as a dynamic two-way prospect with pop at the plate and an upper-80's fastball on the mound. The right-hander hit over .400 for most of the season, and finished just below the mark to finish his junior season. See his report from earlier this spring below:

"Uncommitted. 6-foot-4, 195-pounds. Projectable build with plenty of room for added strength in the future. Enjoyed a really strong season for Houston Academy this spring leading them to the Class 3A State Championship, and carried that success over to this week in ultimately leading them to the win the series. Really intriguing two-way prospect that holds carrying tools across the board. Makes a real impact on both sides of the ball with gap-to-gap power and bat speed at the plate, and has been in the upper-80's on the mound. Arm strength translates to behind the plate, where he has a plus arm from the crouch and has the ability to shut down running games. Good uncommitted prospect to follow throughout the summer in the 2024 class in AL."

Carter Jackman OF / Hoover , AL / 2024

Jackman comes in as one of the top uncommitted outfielders in the class after a strong spring and summer on the circuit. Another physical prospect at 6-foot-3, 190-pounds, the right-hander swings it like a middle-of-the-order hitter and looks to hammer balls to the pull-side gap within his approach. Also has a strong arm from the outfield that's been up to 91 mph at the All-State Games this summer. See his report from earlier this summer below:

"Uncommitted. 6-foot-3, 190-pounds. Medium frame with room to add mass and has some athleticism. A good name to know for the 2024 class in AL in terms of uncommitted prospects. Displays solid tools across the board and posted an impressive round of BP. Really gets into the lower-half well in his swing with torque; uses his frame well. Generates separation with the hands and swings the barrel on an uphill plane. Looks to drive the ball to the pull-side and registered consistent low-90 EVs; recorded a max distance of 342 ft. Has a short path to contact and extends well; present bat speed and turns it in a quick window. Profiles as a corner outfielder and has a really strong arm that worked up to 91 mph on throws to the plate. Saw quality playing time as a junior for a powerhouse 7A program and will be a solid addition at the next level."

Hayden Berry OF / Helena , AL / 2024

Berry, another prospect that looks the part in the box, is another quality uncommitted outfielder that debuts inside the Top-100 in this update. Standing 6-foot-3, 170-pounds, the senior has lean strength to his frame and possesses a smooth left-handed stroke with power projection. A slightly above-average runner, Berry moves well in the outfield and profiles to a corner spot in the future. See his report from earlier this summer below:

"Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 165-pounds. Really lean and athletic build. Still some projection left with room to add strength in the future. Possesses solid skills all-around and is a quality prospect in the rising senior class in AL that is still on the market. Weight stays on his back-side long enough in his swing and uses a mostly direct path to contact to meet the ball. Good hand speed with a slightly uphill path through the zone. Lived gap-to-gap within his approach during his round of BP where he posted some low-90 EVs. Accurate thrower from the outfield on throws to the plate and moves well in the grass. Developing arm strength at 81 mph. Intriguing left-handed hitter with a smooth swing that is one to follow over the course of the next year."

Jakyle Sims OF / Ezekiel Academy, AL / 2024

Sims, another uncommitted outfielder with a different skill set than the others mentioned before him, came into the All-State Games virtually as an unknown, but showed at that event he's a name to follow closely over the coming months. Listed at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds, Sims is an above-average athlete and possesses plenty of twitch in everything he does. From the left side, the senior is balanced and athletic in his setup with a line drive approach at the plate, and showcased a strong arm from the outfield that worked up to 87 mph at the event. See his report from earlier this summer below:

"Uncommitted. 5-10, 170-pounds. Strength throughout, athletic and compact frame. Evan stance, narrow feet. Slight uphill path with gap to gap approach. 70 mph bat speed with 10 G’s of rotational acceleration. 88 max exit velocity, good feel to hit with consistent line drives throughout his round. 301' max distance. Above-average arm strength that worked up to 87 mph from the outfield with some accuracy. Longer arm action, high 3/4 slot. Solid work with the feet, does a nice job with no wasted movement after the ball is in the glove. 7.16 runner in the 60. 1.73 and 3.98 in the 10 and 30 yard splits. Took quality hacks throughout gameplay against some talented arms after a strong workout."

Camden Cobb C / Vincent , AL / 2024

Cobb has made some really big strides over the past year, and makes his debut inside the Top-150 in this update. Listed at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, the uncommitted backstop helped lead his team to a Class 2A State Championship appearance this spring, and carried over that success to the summer. The right-hander has gap-to-gap pop at the plate and is equally skilled behind the plate with quality leadership skills. See his report from earlier this summer below:

"Cobb (Vincent, 2024) has spring-boarded his success from earlier this spring, where he helped lead Vincent HS to a Class 2A State Finals appearance, to this summer playing with Excel Baseball and making an impact on both sides. Listed at 5-foot-10, 180-pounds, the uncommitted junior possesses a prototypical catcher's build that carries present throughout his frame. Offensively, the right-hander hits from a square base with an early movement for load, and creates tons of extension out front the ability to keep his barrel in the zone for a while. He belted once well over the wall to the opposite field in the lone viewing we had on Day 1, but it was a good one. Behind the plate defensively, Cobb has quality leadership traits and receives well with adequate arm strength and accuracy on throws to second base both in between innings and during gameplay. After a strong spring and a solid start to his summer, Cobb is a good uncommitted prospect in the 2024 class in AL to follow over the course of the next few months."
