American Legion Zone Tournaments

As the summer comes to end, all eyes turn to the tradition of American Legion, the district tournaments are this week end at Cabot, Mountain Home, and Texarkana.

Centennial Bank 13 vs Gwatney Chevrolet 1

Game one of the Cabot District tournament featured Gwatney Chevrolet (Jacksonville) vs Centennial Bank (Cabot). Centennial Bank made quick work of Gwatney Chevrolet winning 13-1 in a run ruled shortened contest of 7 innings.

Centennial Bank received a strong performance on the mound from 2017 RHP Logan Gilberston who pitched 6 innings allowing 1 earned run while strike out 8. Gilbertson located his fastball on a consistent basis inducing contact. He complimented his fastball pitchability by mixing in an 11/5 curveball.

Cabot had a strong day offensively pounding out 13 hits. They were led offensively by 2016 OF Logan Kirkendoll and 2017 Logan Edmondson. Kirkendoll went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s while Edmondson went 2-2 including a triple and 2 RBIs.

Gwantney was held quiet most of the day recording 5 hits, 2016 RHP/CIF Brandon Hickingbotham and 2015 OF Cortland McDonald both had two hits. McDonald had a triple while Hickingbotham hit 2 singles and scored Gwatney’s only run.

Russellville 15 vs Conway 3

Game two of the day saw Russellville put together a massive day together pounding out and scoring 17 hits and 15 runs to defeat Conway 15-3.

Russellville was led offensively by 2015 RHP/INF Mark Moyer and 2014 INF Jacob Barker. Moyer had 3 hits including 2 doubles and 2 RBI, while Barker went 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI’s.

On the mound Russellville used 2015 Braxton Sampley and Moyer to take care of business. Sampley threw 3 innings and left leading 7-1 giving up 0 earned and striking out 1. Moyer pitched the last four innings allowing no earned runs and striking out 5.

Rogers 10 vs Searcy 4

Rogers defeated Searcy 10-4 Friday night in the final game of the day in Zone Tournament. They fell behind 2 to 0 in the 2nd and then methodically drove in 10 runs over the next 7 innings.

They were able to be patient at the plate and execute their bunt game due to the strong performance they received from 2014 RHP Billy Treacy. Treacy pitched 8 innings allowing 4 runs while striking out 7, scattering 7 hits and walking 2.

Offensively they were paced by Kyle Eason, Max Horton, and Jackson Field. They all had two hits none bigger than Eason 2 out single in the top of the third that drove in 2, that tied the game.

Searcy was led offensively by Anthony Arnold and Mickey Ivey. Arnold went 2 for 4 with two singles. Mickey Ivey went 1-4 but drove in two with an inside the park home run in the bottom of the 8th to make the score 10-4.

Rogers will advance to play Fort Smith, Searcy will play the loser of Russellville vs Centennial Bank.
