Arizona 2022 Rankings Updated

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

The PBR Arizona- Class of 2022 Player Rankings has had its first initial update as of April 22nd, 2020.  We are looking forward to seeing many more players compete this summer as we were in the spring. We feel for all of the players out there that have worked so hard to be able to compete this season and we will be there for coverage soon. The list of Top players from the 2022 class have been highlighted and identified.  This group of 100 players includes players from all over the state of Arizona that play across the different classifications of high school baseball. Over the last several months PBR Arizona has used valued PBR Staff, Scouts, and past & current local coaches as resources to update and add to this list. In this update, this is the first time PBR has posted rankings on the class of 2022. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to update this list in the future. Our next update will come in the summer once baseball in Arizona resumes. Let’s take a look at our newly updated class of 2022 State Player Rankings:

Not on the list or feel that you got over looked? Look out for our recently posted Top Prospect Games for 2022 graduates that will be held at the end of June. In addition to covering games, this annual invite only event is a huge identifier of prospects around the state of Arizona for PBR Arizona.

Saloman takes No.1 spot

RHP, Logan Saloman (Hamilton), uncommitted, stands at 6-foot-3 195-pounds, who has put on some strength since helping bring home a championship in 2019 for the Hamilton Huskies. Rated as the top player in the AZ 2022 Class, he was recently ranked No. 159 nationally by PBR. Presence on the mound working his FB 84-87mph, showing some feel for a tight 74-77mph CV. He has plenty of experience pitching with Team USA and on some other big stages. He was off to a decent start to the spring before the season got shut down. Saloman pitched in 3 games going undefeated, logging 15.2 innings while allowing two earned runs on 11 hits while walking two and striking out 11 batters. We should continue to hear Saloman's name into the future.

Araiza explodes into Top-3

2022 RHP Issac Araiza (Cibola, AZ), San Diego State commit, Started on the hill for Aggies baseball. Large frame with present strength & durability. More athleticism & twitch then the body type shows. FB sat 87-88 T89mph with long loose 3/4 arm action. Delivery was explosive but a bit inconsistent at times. Showed glimpses of pounding the strike zone throughout game when he got extended. Mixed in an above average hard breaking ball at 75-76mph. Should be a strong pitching prospect to follow in 2022 class.

Smith on the rise

C, Derek Smith (Horizon) uncommitted, has been on the rise since our Top Prospect Games last summer. He continued that trend, showing why he is considered one of the top uncommitted catching prospects in the state of Arizona with his showing at the Preseason All-State Games back in January. Smith is a high ceiling catching prospect with a wide variety of tools. At 6-foot-two 180-pounds, there is plenty of room to add more strength in his athletic frame. He hits from a balanced controlled approach with some power potential. Defensively, Smith is an ultra projectable backstop with his athletic long limbed body, staying in control of his movements. Moves quickly behind the plate. He has soft hands receiving and his arm should get stronger in near future, already showing as respectable . He's also a multi-sport athlete that plays basketball. His athleticism and projection lands him in a good spot on this list.
