Area Scout

Next Tuesday, Sept. 26th, the PBR Illinois/Missouri team is hosting Battle for The Arch at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Ill. This is an invite-only event for upperclassmen, and gives our staff an ample look at the area's top players.

For a closer look at the showcase details and the technologies we'll have on-site to assist our in-person evaluation for all in attendance, click here. For a complete look at those registered to attend this event, view the most up-to-date version of the roster by clicking here.

Team Illinois

LHP Cameron Appenzeller (Chatham-Glenwood, 2025) is a highly projectable southpaw that stands at 6-foot-5, 165-pounds with plenty of room to dream on. Ranked No. 65 in the state, Appenzeller flashed a mid-80s fastball (T86 mph) during our staff’s look in late June. He’s shown a feel to spin a sweeping slider in the low-70s and a mid-70s changeup with armside run. Appenzeller is an arm that our staff is looking forward to getting an updated look at next week.

(8/8/23)

OF Collin Severson (Sycamore, 2024) had a successful spring for his final-four Sycamore squad, hitting .425 in 87 at-bats. He most recently entered our rankings at No. 201, and at previous events, he’s posted a 91 mph exit velocity. Severson is a steady defender, too, and has reached up to 83 mph from the outfield.

(7/12/23)

INF Jake Stedman (Belleville West, 2024) recently attended the Illinois State Games in early August, and took a strong round of BP, where he recorded some of the highest bat speeds (T77.8 mph) and hand speeds (T26.1 mph) at the event. His hardest hit ball at the event was 97.2 mph off the bat, per TrackMan. Stedman will give our staff an ample opportunity to get another in-game look before the spring season.

Team Missouri

1B Nathan Higgins (Seckman, 2024) last attended the Top Prospect Games in June and will give us an updated look next week at SLU. At 6-foot-2, 225-pounds, Higgins has power in his frame, posting a max exit velocity of 95.7 mph and a max distance of 342 feet, and he’s shown above-average bat speed in the past (87.6 mph). Ranked No. 95 in the state’s 2024 class, Higgins is a name-to-know.

(6/20/23)

RHP Gavin Caldwell (Sacred Heart, 2024) stands in an athletic 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame with more still to come. The No. 166 ranked prospect in the 2024 class has a clean operation with a fluid arm to pair. Caldwell’s fastball sits in the low-80s and has topped out at 84.1 mph. He utilizes both a slider and curveball in his arsenal with a changeup that sits in the mid-70s.

(5/30/23)

OF Brennon Wibbenmeyer (Francis Howell, 2024) is another prospect in attendance that was at the Top Prospect Games in June. Standing at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds with strength in his build, Wibbenmeyer is a 6.9 runner that has produced exit velocities in the low-90s, with his highest coming in at 91.5 mph. A strong arm from the outfield, too, he’s reached 90 mph on his best bullet to home.
