Waterford Mott Corsairs 11, L’Anse Creuse Lancers 6

Todd Bonnivier had a huge day and it started early as he led off the top of the first with a solo homerun to left field to give the Corsairs a 1-0 lead.  The Lancers answered in the bottom of the first with a run of their own, as Hunter Lega, Bryton Rohde, and Spencer Lienau each delivered singles.

Game one went scoreless for the next three innings, as starting pitchers Todd Bonnivier (Mott) and Reed Banner (LC) held the opposing offenses in check.  Mott broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth.  Todd Bonivier led off the fifth with a single, and two batters later, Kal Lorenger launched a two-run homerun to left-centerfield to give Mott a 3-1 lead.  After Trevor Bonnivier was hit by a pitch, Justice Bolling singled and Demetrius Lehman delivered a two-run double to give Mott a 5-1 advantage.   A bunt and run scored Lehman from second base to put Mott up 6-1.

L’Anse Creuse rallied back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs with two outs on four consecutive singles from Lega, Rhode, Lienau, and Josh Fisher, making the score 6-4 after six.  That was as close as the Lancers would get, as the Corsairs put up five runs in the top of the seventh, with Lehman delivering the knockout blow with a three-run homerun to left field.  L’Anse Creuse added two more runs in the bottom half of the seventh for a final score of 11-6 in favor of Mott.

Todd Bonnivier (2013) led Mott with three hits, including a homerun, triple, and three RBIs, and also tossed all seven innings to earn the win.  Justice Bolling (2013) doubled and went 3-for-4.  Demetrius Lehman (2013) was 2-for-3 with a homerun, double, and five RBIs.

For the Lancers, Spencer Lienau (2013) and Bryton Rohde (2013, Macomb CC) went 3-for-4.  Hunter Lega (2014) and Adam Redoute (2015) also delivered two hits apiece.

In Game 2, junior Dan Bailey threw a complete game for L’Anse Creuse, striking out 11 and surrendering one run and six hits to earn the win for the Lancers.

The Corsairs scored their lone run of the game in the top of the first, as Todd Bonnivier continued his hot day with a leadoff triple, and senior Brad Wojcik followed with an RBI single.

L’Anse Creuse answered in the bottom half of the first.  After Bryton Rohde earned a two-out walk, three consecutive singles from Spencer Lienau, Aaron Gonzalez, and Andrew Woloszyk, and an error by the Mott third baseman plated three runs to give the Lancers a 4-1 lead.

L’Anse Creuse added runs in the fourth and sixth innings, and Bailey stymied the Corsairs’ hitters to give the Lancers a 6-1 victory.

For L’Anse Creuse, Andrew Woloszyk (2013) and Brandon Mitchell (2013) had two hits, and Brendan Craven (2016), Spencer Lienau, Aaron Gonzalez (2015), Dan Bailey, and Damian Mendoza (2013) each delivered a hit apiece.

Todd Bonnivier again led the offense for Mott with two hits.  Bonnivier finished the doubleheader 5-for-8 with a homerun and two triples.
