Class of 2013 Spotlight: LHP Dalton Moats from Park Hill HS

Dalton Moats has put together a junior campaign that has caught the eye of Prep Baseball Report scouts. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound left handed pitcher has posted 4-0 record in five games started, allowing only one earned run in thirty five innings pitched, with a miniscule 0.20 ERA. He is also averaging just under two strikeouts an inning, fanning sixty one and allowing only sixteen hits. Batters are hitting a measly .132 against Moats this season.

Moats recently shared his thoughs on the season and what he tinks the future may hold on the most recent Profile Spotlight.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player?

Moats: I feel my biggest strength is my confidence when I step onto the field.

PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?

Moats: Every aspect of my game I feel needs improvement, I can never be that good.  I continue to work hard every day to make myself better.

PBR: What have are your expectations for the recruiting process?

Moats: I would love to play D1, but whatever my family and I see’s best fit for me, then that’s where I will commit.

PBR: What type of program would you like to play at? What is most important to you: Caliber of program, coaching staff, academics, etc…?

Moats: I want to go somewhere where I can succeed as a student first because it doesn’t matter how good you are on the field, if you can’t cut the grades.  I want experienced coaches to make me better and push me to see how far I can actually play this game.

PBR: What schools are you most interested in right now, and why?

Moats: Nebraska, Kansas State, Houston, Ball State. These four colleges have all come to my school and seen me play which makes me interested in them as well.

PBR: What are your personal goals for the 2012 season?

Moats: Like all players, I want us to win first and win state.  Winning is always fun!!!

PBR: What are your high school team goals for 2012 season, and are they being met at the halfway point in the season?

Moats: I want us to play good quality baseball at all times and win as often as we can.  We have a good team and I feel as the season goes on, we have gotten better.  We have to continue to work harder and play smarter as we try and win our conference first.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?

Moats: I play for the Kansas City Prospects coached by Brian Scheetz.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher/hitter that you have faced?

Hitter-Todd Hinkley, Liberty High School

Pitcher- Brian Young Staley High School

PBR: What is your fondest memory or highlight from your 2012 baseball season (High School or Summer)?

Moats: Our game against Liberty North this year, I had a no-hitter going into the sixth and ended up with 15 K’s.  Just a huge win for us against a very good team.

PBR: What is your most memorable moment in baseball so far in your life?

Moats: When I was twelve years old we played the AAU world championship and we won the whole thing.  Then at thirteen we made it back to the championship game, but lost. It was a great two year run for us as a team.

PBR: What are your thoughts on the implementation of BBCOR bats from both a hitting and pitching perspective?

Moats: As a hitter it didn’t affect my game much because I have always been a gap to gap hitter and have always had WTP (Warning track power).   As a pitcher I don’t worry about it much because it is my job to make them hit my pitch and keep the hitter off balance.
