Class of 2021 Showcase: Preview

By Illinois Staff

On Sunday, Oct. 13, the PBR Illinois team will be hosting the fall’s Class of 2021 Showcase at The MAX, open to all high school juniors in the state. Currently, there are over 60 prospects set to attend Sunday’s showcase, including a handful of high-follow uncommitted names we’ve seen previously.

As of now, just one prospect headed to the event on Sunday is committed, and he just so happens to be one of the top left-handers in the state: Cory Ronan (Routt Catholic), who is headed to Hawaii after high school. He’s the No. 5-ranked southpaw in the state, and it’ll be nice to get an updated look at Ronan’s development.

When it comes to on-the-market prospects to know going into the event, keep an eye on a member of Team Illinois’ PBR Future Games roster, OF Ryan Orput (Hinsdale Central). When it comes to pure tools, there are few in the state who can compare – Orput is a sub-6.70 runner with pull-power from the left side.

Lyons Township’s Anthony Sorrentino last showcase was back at our winter Lockport event, where he looked sharp with his low-80s stuff, but it’s since ticked up in the summer, where he was consistently sitting in the upper-80's with an above-average breaking ball.

If you’re seeking up-the-middle talent, look no further than SS/2B Jaylon Nauden, from Marian Catholic. He’s an athlete with the footwork and bounce to fit the middle infield mold, at least for the time being, with a strong right-handed bat that projects well. Marist’s Chazz Clark is a versatile, left-handed hitter with athleticism and upside to his game.

These five aforementioned names are far from the only prospects who’ve earned attention heading into this fall 2021 event, and there’s bound to be even more coming out of the showcase, too. Stay tuned early next week for rapid analysis from Sunday.
