College Roundup: Class of 2017 Prepares for Year Three

It's been a mixed bag of success for the top ten prospects in the Pennsylvania Class of 2016. The top two prospects, Alex Kirilloff and Nolan Jones are knocking on the door of their respective oragnization's major league rosters while six of the 10 are currently applying their craft at the professional level. Two of the 10 are entering their 4th year of college baseball and two are no longer playing the game.

Today we take a look at the baseball careers of those in the top 10 spots in the final Pennsylvania Class of 2016 rankings since their departure from high school.

Class of 2016: Top Ten Prospects


CHRIS MCMAHON / RHP / WEST CHESTER RUSTIN, PA / 2017


+ 6-foot-2, 205-pound righty went 3-2 with a 3.73 ERA over 60.1 innings while making 12 starts for the Miami Hurricanes in 2019.

SHANE MUNTZ / C / MALVERN PREP, PA / 2017


+ 6-foot-4, 230-pound two-way players hit .313 with 6 doubles, 2 triples and 14 home runs as a sophomore in 2019. Muntz also drove had 40 RBI for Wake Forest. The two-way prospect went 0-2 on the mound making 17 appearances in relief with 25 strikeouts.

JOE LANCELLOTTI / RHP / WILLIAM PENN CHARTER, PA / 2017


+ 5-foot-11, 205-pound righty made a 27 appearances, 25 in relief, going 6-4 with a 3.12 ERA for North Carolina in 2019. Lancellotti registered 56 strikeouts and registered three saves.

NICK STONER / RHP / ELIZABETHTOWN AREA, PA / 2017


+ The lone Division II player in the group has gone 10-4 while making 94 strikeouts over his first two years of actions in the starting rotation for Bloomsburg University.

ZACH MCCAMBLEY / RHP / POCONO MOUNTAIN EAST, PA / 2017


+ 6-foot-1, 205-pound Coastal Carolina righty went 6-3 with a 5.21 ERA over 67.1 innings of work as a sophomore in 2019.  That work included 11 games started and 11 relief appearances.

TRENT VIETMEIER / RHP / MONTOUR, PA / 2017


+ 6-foot-3, 208-pound righty went 3-1 wih a 5.24 ERA while making 25 relief appearances as a sophomore for LSU. He worked 34.1 innings while striking out 34.

RILEY CHRISTNER / RHP / MEYERSDALE AREA, PA / 2017


+ The lone player in the group to go the JUCO route. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound righty battled injuries during his career appearing in one game as a freshman for Lackawanna JC.

KYLE VIRBITSKY / RHP / EPISCOPAL ACADEMY, PA / 2017


+ 6-foot-6, 235-pound righty went 2-7 with a 4.66 ERA for Penn State in 2019. Virbitsky worked 30.2 innings over 20 appearances that included one start.

ZACH KOKOSKA / OF / GREATER LATROBE, PA / 2017


+ 6-foot-1, 200-pound two-way player appeared in 14 games as a freshman at Virginia Tech. Transferred to Kansas State for his sophomore season. Hit .330 with 7 2B, 2 3B, 8 HR & 31 RBI. Also appeared on the mound for two innings of work.

ALEX TAPPEN / 3B / WISSAHICKON, PA / 2017


+ 6-foot-2, 190-pound infielder hit .228 with three home runs and 23 RBI while appearing in 46 games for Virginia as a sophomore in 2019.
