PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Kubiatowicz: I really like the Illinois State University campus. It is compact but offers a lot of options. The community really supports the Redbird sports which will be fun. I also am excited about the work Coach Holm is doing to rebuild the baseball program and return it to the top of the Missouri Valley Conference.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Kubiatowicz: I toured Sacramento State, South Dakota State, Concordia and Augustana.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Kubiatowicz: My uncle recommended that Coach Holm review the videos on my YouTube page as a potential Redbird player. We started talking and seemed to hit it off right away.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Kubiatowicz: It has been nice to lock up my college choice early on.  I can focus on enjoying school more and it also allows me to rest my arm while playing soccer, football and hockey.  I am going to start up with baseball again soon but just to prepare for next season rather than continuing to try to earn a pitching spot

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Kubiatowicz: The fact that Illinois State is in the Midwest really helped.  I am glad that I get to play top tier baseball without having to move too far away.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Kubiatowicz: I have had several coaches along the way who all contributed to the player I am today.  Playing for the Blizzard and working with PBR definitely helped with exposure to a large number of schools.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Kubiatowicz: I didn’t really have specific expectations when I decided to start attending showcases and to look at colleges.  Since I was already headed into my senior year, everything happened very quickly.  It is easy to find good things about every program, so you just have to choose what feels right and which coach you trust the most to develop your skills.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Kubiatowicz: They are going to continue to refine my pitching.  I would also like to play in the field but only if the hitting skill comes naturally.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Kubiatowicz: My best memory to date was as a junior in high school.  Everything I had been working on came together in one swing and I launched an inside curveball 370 feet for my first home run. That led to 3 more home runs in 2018.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Kubiatowicz: When I was a sophomore I had to hit against Will Frisch who had recently hit 90 mph.  All I could manage was a weak shot back to the mound and was an easy out at first.  Hopefully I will get a chance for a rematch either this season or sometime during college.
