Commitment Spotlight: '20 C Kenneth Jimenez

Area Scout

2020 C Kenneth Jimenez (Nogales HS) was a standout catcher at last January's Preseason All-State Games. The physical backstop recently made his college commitment to Yavapai College. Here's what he had to say..

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Jimenez: Yavapai has great baseball program and I wanted to be a part of it. Coaches have a history in winning Championships and getting players drafted. The campus and town gave me a hometown feel that I really liked.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Jimenez: UNM, GCU, Central & Cochise

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Jimenez: Coach Cougill first saw me at the Boras Classic in PHX in February. He introduced himself to me after the game. First great impression. We kept in touch the rest of the year.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Jimenez: Honestly, I don't feel the process is over, it has just begun, I have to work harder than ever, I'm going after a starting spot. I am stoked!

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Jimenez: My deciding factor was the whole coaching staff and their knowledge. I am looking forward in working with coach Kizer (catching coach).

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Jimenez: My parents, especially my mom. I come from a small town, growing up taught me the importance of family. I have traveled many miles to compete in the PHX area.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Jimenez: My recruiting process was crazy, I committed to a D1 in May, then had to de-commit because of coach changes. I had to re-opened my recruiting process. It was not an easy process.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Jimenez: My plan is to earn a starting catcher spot and help our team win a championship.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Jimenez: The most memorable moment I have had is winning the AZ State Championship with my brother Kevin. He was a senior and I was a Sophomore.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Jimenez: This one is hard, I've competed against many great players, especially my teammates on T-Rex, they are all dudes.
