Commitment Spotlight: Brycen Tambone

Brett Thorney
State Scouting Director

Earlier this week, Bryce Tambone officially signed to play baseball for the Yavapai College Roughriders. Tambone was off the solid start of the 2020 season before the season was cut short. Yavapai is getting a strong physical bat and athlete that should make a strong impact into the future. PBR caught up with Tambone to ask him a couple questions about his recruiting experience:

Scouting Report

6/11/19

One of the best bats in the class, Tambone showed the ability to drive the ball all over the field. He starts with an open stance and high hands. Good rhythm between hands and leg lift. His swing works on plane early, giving him a large margin for error and ability to drive the ball to right. Exit velo was up to 95 MPG. All of his numbers increased, most noticeable his arm strength which was up to 86 MPH. Ran a 6.89

1/27/19- 5’10 180-pound strong frame. Gets into zone very early creating plenty of margin for error in his swing. Good use of leg kick and staying in the ground with his back side to produce his 94 MPH exit velo, which was shown by the impressive BP and pull-side pop. 7.17 60 and arm at 73 MPH from the outfield may keep him in left field, but potential big time bat should carry him to the next level.

10/14/18 - 5-foot-10, 180-pound built frame. The right-handed hitter shows a quiet set-up with a hang and read type load. Shows present strength. Shows some easy power for his age. Will go the other way. As a defender shows good instincts and ability to get rid of ball quickly. 80 mph reading from RF. If the bat keeps developing don’t be surprised to see him slide to the other side and man the LF spot at the college level.

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

Tambone: I chose Yavapai because it was the best fit for me and the coaches and Campus were great.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Tambone: UNM, New Mexico Junior College, and Mesa.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?

Tambone: I took a visit there in October and they continued to keep and eye on me and it clicked right away.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?

Tambone: Yes, the pressure is off my shoulders. Now I can relax and enjoy my senior season.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?

Tambone: The coaches were amazing and I know they can help me become a better baseball player.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Tambone: My dad has helped me the most to get to where I am at today. He has took me to countless practices, events, and tournaments. He also helps me with my swing day by day and is always there for me.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Tambone:  It was a little difficult in the beginning because I also played football so I didn’t get to go to as much of the showcases in the summer as I wanted to but in the end it all worked out.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?

Tambone: The coaching staff wants me to compete for a spot as a freshman and earn a job. I want to contribute to the team as much as possible.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?

Tambone:  My most Memorable baseball moment to date is going to Jupiter, Florida with the Elite Dbacks team and compete in the World Championship in front of 800 scouts.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?

Tambone:  The best player I have competed against is Matthew Liberatore.
