Crystal City LHP Winkelman commits

Alex Winkelman, a left-handed pitcher from Crystal City, has verbally committed to play at SEMO next season. Currently ranked as the No. 17 Class of 2012 player, Winkelman is fresh off of a monster junior campaign for the Hornets that earned him Prep Baseball Report Second Team All-State honors.
The 6-foot-2 southpaw posted a 7-2 record with a 0.70 ERA and whopping 102 strikeouts over 50 1/3 innings last season. Thanks to a mid- to upper-80s fastball, sharp breaker, and fading change up, Winkelman averaged 14.19 strikeouts per game, recorded a 0.66 WHIP, and fired five shutouts.
On April 7, he fired a one-hit shutout against Herculaneum in which he recorded 18 strikeouts. He followed that performance with a five-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts against Orchard Farm on April 21. And then, just one week later, Winkelman tossed a perfect game against Grandview, fanning 16 over six innings.
