No. 31 Alton 4, Carbondale 0

The Redbirds blanked Carbondale 4-0 in their season-opener on Friday. Senior 1B Nick Droste had two RBI to lead the Redbird attack. Junior SS Clint Cress and junior LF Nick Paulda plated the other two Alton (1-0) runs.

6-foot-4 senior LHP Brad Henry (1-0) allowed three hits in his 3 2/3 innings of work. Senior Charlie Howard allowed one hit in his 2 1/3 innings of relief. 

No. 45 Troy-Triad 11, Effingham 0 (5 innings)

The Knights opened up their 2013 campaign in style with an 11-0 whitewash of Effingham in five innings on Friday. Senior RHP Jordan Felax (1-0) pitched two-hit ball over four innings with three strikeouts to pick up the win.

Knight senior 1B Keaton Wright had three hits and three RBI. Sophomore Dalton Johnson drove home three and senior Cody Massey had two hits and an RBI for Troy-Triad (1-0).

Williamsville 7, Springfield Lutheran 0

Williamsville’s (1-1) Tyler O’Shea was lights-out in his first start of the 2013 season. The Bullet junior hurler fired a no-no at Springfield Lutheran with 11 strikeouts and only one walk. Dalton Rockford had a pair of RBI to lead the Bullet attack.

Belleville Althoff 12, Marissa 2

Five Crusader pitchers combined to no-hit Marissa 12-2 on Friday in Belleville Althoff’s (1-0) season-opener. Senior Bryce Richter (1-0) picked up the win with two no-hit innings with five strikeouts. Richter also had a double and two RBI at the plate. Sophomore Ben Hankammer, junior Grant Strieker, senior Ryan Marcum and sophomore Austin Keen, all fired a hitless inning in relief. Crusader pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts.

Hankammer doubled home a pair of runs and junior Luke Frazier chipped in with double and an RBI.

Herrin 11, Eldorado 0 (5 innings)

The Tigers improved to 3-0 with a 11-0 romp past Eldorado in five innings on Friday. The Tigers have outscored their three opponents 33-6 this week. Tiger Aaron Cheatham (1-0)

fired a two-hit shutout while fanning eight. Cheatham, also had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with a double and two RBI. A.J. Taitt chipped in with a two hits, including a double a pair of RBI.

Murphysboro 5, Cobden 0

Murphysboro (2-0) blanked Cobden 5-0 on Friday. Red Devil starting and winning pitcher, Blake Bachmann, fired a one-hit shutout at the Apple Knockers.

Collinsville 5, Marion 1

Collinsville (1-0) won its season-opener 5-1 over Marion on Friday. The Kahoks were led at the plate by senior Paul Suess who had a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove home another. Kahok 6-foot-5 senior Tanner Houck (1-0) fired four scoreless innings allowing two hits and he struck out 4.

Red Bud 6, Farmington 4

The Musketeers won their opener 6-4 behind Stefan DeRousse, who doubled, tripled and drove home three Red Bud (1-0) runs. DeRousse, also nailed down the save for winning pitcher senior Greg Godier (1-0). DeRousse allowed one hit in his two spotless innings of relief. Godier allowed five hits and no earned runs in his five innings to pick up the win.

Carlyle 3, Valmeyer 2

The Indians had only two hits but they were enough to get Carlyle (1-1) past Valmeyer 3-2 on Friday. Juniors John Becker and Matt Hilmes had the RBI hits and Hilmes (1-0) fired 4 2/3 innings allowing two runs and three hits to pick up the win on the mound. Junior Ethan Huge was that, firing 2 2/3 innings of shutout relief to nail down the save.

Massac County 3, Century 2 (11 innings)

The Patriots tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by winning pitcher Dalton Williams (1-1). Williams fired seven shutout innings in relief to even up his record and Massac County’s at 1-1. Patriot Josh Wetzel had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with an RBI.
