Rivalries is one of the great things about high school baseball. Traditions of big games, large crowds and bragging rights that will be talked about for years. Yesterday I was able to watch to of the better rivalries in 5A baseball. Watson Chapel HS vs White Hall HS and Sylvan Hills HS vs Jacksonville HS. Both games will have large impacts on the conference standing.

White Hall HS 13 vs Watson Chapel HS 2

White Hall raced out to a quick start scoring 5 runs in the 1st, 4 in the 2nd, and 4 in the 3rd, then cruised to victory behind 2015 RHP Daniel Sprinkle’s crisp performance.

In the first White Hall hit two triples in the first to drive in runs that reached due to walks and errors. 2015 OF Kirk Baugh hit a triple to drive in two runs, later in the inning 2016 OF Caleb did the same. In the second the Bulldogs tact in 4 more runs with three singles and 3 walks. The 3rd ended much of the same with 4 runs on 4 walks and 2 singles.

White Hall received a solid outing by Sprinkle pitched 5 innings scattering 6 hits giving up 2 earned runs, while striking out 4 with no walks.

2017 OF Ja’kobi Jackson and 2015 INF Jaylen Jackson were bright spots for Watson Chapel both went 2 for 3 and scored a run.

Jacksonville HS 3 vs Sylvan Hills HS

Jacksonville road a 2015 RHP James Tucker for 7 innings on the mound and scratched out 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to defeat Sylvan Hills 3-2, to complete the sweep of a double header and placing them firmly in the driver’s seat of the 5A Central conference standings.

Sylvan Hill scored 1 in the 1st off two hits, then turned things over to 2015 RHP Hunter Heslep. Heslep was sharp on the day pitching 6 innings of shutout baseball only giving up 3 hits, and allowing 2 walks.

Scoring stayed stagnate until the 7th when 2018 Nick Farkouri hit a single to right, after a throwing error from the outfield a run scored.

Jacksonville answered in the 7th when 2016 OF Jordan Wakefield walked, 2015 MIF, and Dereck St.Clair singled. That quick start by Jacksonville lead Sylvan Hills to turn to 2015 RHP Blake Maddox. Maddox induced a Ryan Mallison groundball that was misplayed to load the bases. 2017 INF Caleb McMunn hit a single to right scoring Wakefield and St.Clair. After intentionally walking 2015 C Greg Jones, James Tucker hit a single to close out the game and pick up a victory for the team and himself.
