Lake Zurich 4, No. 2 Mundelein 2
Lake Zurich (4-11; 2-3) stunned the No. 2 team in the State of Illinois Mundelein (16-1; 5-1) on Thursday in Lake Zurich. The Bears put three ruins on the board in the bottom of the first inning and RHP’s Mike Mulder and Mike Shastany made the runs hold up. Mulder allowed two runs and four hits in his 5 1/3 quality innings of work to pick up the win. Shastany put out a Mustang fire in the sixth and faced five batters and retired them all to pick up the save. Nick Jones had a single and plated two Bear runs while Dom Demicco singled and doubled with a run scored and an RBI for the victorious Bears.

Southwestern

Edwardsville 8, Alton 1

O’Fallon 11, East St. Louis 0
O’Fallon (14-8; 6-2) dispatched East St. Louis in six innings behind Panther Robert Guithues’ two-hit shutout. With the win the Panthers remained tied with rival Edwardsville atop the Southwestern standings. Panther senior Jake Jarvis singled, doubled scored a run and drove in two to lead the O’ Fallon attack. Junior Colin Holton doubled and drove home three Panther runs while fellow-junior Hayden Hewitt singled and had two RBI. Edwardsville (16-6; 6-2) invades Blazier Field in O’ Fallon at 4:15 on Tuesday, April 30.

Belleville East 4, Granite City 3
Belleville East (13-8; 5-3) slipped past Granite City in Belleville on Thursday. Lancer senior Brandon Houget (3-3) pitched and hit the Lancers past the Warriors. Houget allowed two runs and six hits in his stellar six innings of work to get the win. At the plate Houget helped himself with three hits and drove home two Lancer runs. Senior Danny Snyder drove home the other two Lancer runs with a single. Senior Marty Brunk struck out three and walked one Warrior hitter in the top of the seventh to nail down the save.

Belleville West 4, Collinsville 3
Belleville West (12-8; 5-3) edged Collinsville on Thursday scoring the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh. Senior Parker Beine fired a five-hitter at the Kahoks to improve to 4-3 on the mound.

Senior Aaron Meyer had an RBI single for the Maroons and senior Nick VanOsdale chipped in with two hits and a run scored.

The Maroons will host Mississippi Conference leader Highland (17-4) at 4:15 today, in a non-conference battle.

Big 12

Bloomington 13, Decatur MacArthur 1
Bloomington (15-6; 5-0) won for the ninth straight time crushing the Generals again, this time in Bloomington. Senior Jakob Skogin had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a pair of RBI to lead the Purple Raider assault. Sophomores Charlie Cerny and Deion Thompson each drove home a pair for Bloomington. Junior Nick Chapman (2-0) went the distance for the Raiders to pick up the win on the mound while helping himself with two hits at the plate. 

Danville 3, Champaign Centennial 2
Danville (7-7; 2-2) slipped past Champaign Centennial in Champaign on Thursday. Viking ace Chase Thurston (4-0) fired a four-hitter at the Chargers with 10 punch-outs. Thurston’s 26-inning scoreless streak came to an end in this game. Thurston’s battery mate, Southern Mississippi-bound catcher Chuckie Robinson, hammered a homerun with a Viking aboard in the top of the sixth for the eventual game-winner.

Catholic League Crossover

Providence 10, Gordon Tech 2
Providence (9-7; 3-4 Blue) romped past Gordon Tech, scoring eight times in the second, behind junior Dylan Rosa. Rosa singled, doubled, scored a run and drove home two for the Celtics. Shawn Cavalone hit a solo-shot and Celtic starting and winning pitcher Tom Jefferies allowed a run and three hits in his five quality innings of work. The Celtics will host De La Salle on Friday and then entertain No. 3 St. Rita (21-2, 9-0 Blue) on Saturday morning at 11am at Tom Dedin Field. St. Joseph 17, Leo 3
St. Joseph (8-7; 6-5 White) pounded Leo in five innings behind Charger seniors Ryan Moritz and Trayvon Johnson. Moritz had two singles, scored two runs and drove home three to lead the Charger attack. Johnson singled and had four RBI for St. Joe. Nick Genova was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI while Mike Pagliuco doubled twice, scored three runs and had an RBI.

De La Salle 7, Hales Franciscan 0
De La Salle (10-8; 6-4 White) won by forfeit on Thursday.  

Cahokia

Columbia 3, Freeburg 2
Columbia (17-3; 3-1) slipped past Freeburg (13-9; 1-4) on Thursday in Columbia. Eagle senior Josh Fleming (3-1) fired a seven-hitter with seven strikeouts to pick up the win on the mound for Columbia. Junior Kyle Gudeman was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and senior Reed Greating had an RBI single for Columbia. With the 3-for-3 day Gudeman, is now 14-for-23 which is a robust .609 batting average for 2013.

Carlyle 4, Red Bud 1
Carlyle (16-5; 3-2) kept pace with Columbia in the Cahokia, behind a four-hitter from junior Logan Zachry (2-1). Zachry fanned six Musketeer hitters. Senior Tyler Boehne singled, doubled, scored a run and drove home a run to lead the Indian attack. Senior Logan Zimmerman singled and plated a pair of Carlyle runs.

Central State 8

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 7, Springfield Lanphier 5
In a Springfield City-Series encounter at Lanphier Park, SHG (13-4; 7-3) scored two runs in the top of the eighth to finally dispatch the feisty host Lions. Cyclone junior Corey Mason had a double and two RBI, while senior David Jacob had three singles, scored two runs and drove home another for SHG. Red-hot junior Nolan Aherin chipped in with two more hits and an RBI. Mason fired two scoreless innings in relief, striking out four to pick up the win for the Cyclones.

Springfield 4, Springfield S.E. 1
In the second Springfield City-Series contest at Lanphier Park, Springfield (10-9; 6-3) defeated Southeast behind a four-hitter from senior Luke Lavin. Lavin fanned nine to improve to 2-3 on the season. Junior Zach Barnhart had two singles, two runs scored and drove home two to lead the Senator attack.

Central Suburban North

Glenbrook North 13, Maine East 0
Glenbrook North (12-5; 4-1) blanked Maine East in five innings, behind four shutout innings from Spartan starting and winning pitcher Tommy Senst. Senst fanned seven Blue Demons. Matt Pezeschi singled, doubled, scored a run and drove home a pair to lead the Spartan attack.

Deerfield 15, Highland Park 3
Deerfield (10-4; 2-2) routed Highland Park behind Warrior slugger Jared Reuben. Reuben homered three times and plated eight Warrior runs.

Central Suburban South

No. 17 Glenbrook South 15, Waukegan 5

Glenbrook South (11-2; 4-1) hammered Waukegan in five innings behind senior Kyle Pauly. Pauly fell a homerun short of hitting for the cycle driving home four runs. Senior Sam Koloms chipped in with three singles and two RBI while Sam Selby (2-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) and Nick Loggarakis (3-for-3, 2R, RBI) had perfect days at the plate for GBS.

Evanston 3, Maine South 1
Evanston (13-4; 3-1) stunned Maine South behind Wildkit starting and winning pitcher Dan Schoenfeld. Schoenfeld fired 5 1/3 shutout innings at the Hawks allowing five hits and striking out eight. Mike Pope and Eli Miller each had a single and an RBI.

Maine South falls to 9-4 overall and 4-1 in the CSL-South

New Trier 6, Niles West 3
New Trier (7-7-1; 3-2) shocked Niles West on Thursday. The Trevians scored four times in the first inning and never looked back as RHP Kevin Douaire went the distance for NT. Douaire allowed three runs and six hits while striking out nine in his complete game performance. Ernie Roth led the Trevian attack with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate. Roth singled, doubled, homered and plated three Trevian runs.

Niles West falls to 11-2-1 overall and suffers its first CSL-South defeat after four wins.

Carmel (10-3; 5-1) blanked St. Viator behind a four-hit shutout from St. Louis University-bound RHP Matt Ryan (4-0). Ryan fanned eight Lion hitters in his complete game performance.

For Morgan Park Academy (3-5-1; 2-2) things looked rather bleak trailing Parker 8-2 in the third inning. The Warriors rallied past Parker for a huge ISL conference victory. Tony Szafarczyk and Jiheon Jun led the Warrior come-back.

Szafarczyk, had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate for MPA with two runs scored and two RBI. Jun chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI. Jack Timberlake slammed the door on Parker, firing three spotless innings of relief to pick up the win.

Elk Grove (12-4; 5-0) defeated BG behind a five-hitter from Grenadier ace RHP David Camacho. Camacho (6-0) struck out eight and walked three. Mikey Maize was 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the EG attack.

Rolling Meadows 14, Hersey 4
Rolling Meadows (7-5; 5-0) routed Hersey on Thursday to keep pace with Elk Grove atop the MSL-East standings. Mustang senior Matt Dennis singled, doubled, scored three runs and drove home three to lead the Mustang attack. Senior Mickey Wazorick added a single and a double with three runs scored and two RBI for RM. Senior Jack Milas (1-0) pitched the win on the mound for the MSL-East co-leaders.

Mid-Suburban West

Barrington 9, Fremd 5
Barrington (10-7; 5-0) could only muster four hits against Fremd, but benefitted greatly from four costly Viking miscues to stay unbeaten in the MSL-West. Barrington senior Scott Nelson singled and drove home three Bronco runs. Bronco 6-foot-4 RHP Wyatt Trautwein went the distance for Barrington to pick up the win.

Fremd (8-6; 2-2) was led by Matt Isola who singled, doubled and drove home two Viking runs. Viking leadoff man Marcus Middlebrook had two hits and plated a Viking run.  

Mid-Suburban Crossover

Palatine 6, Prospect 5
Palatine (7-7-1; 3-1 West) slipped past Prospect behind the big bats of Jarrod Juskiewicz and Will Stewart. Juskiewicz singled, tripled and had two RBI while Stewart had two singles and two RBI for the Pirates. Palatine starting and winning pitcher RHP Nolan Gavin (3-0) went the distance allowing one earned run and eight hits.

Mount Vernon (19-5; 5-1) blanked Marion behind senior Tyler Ellis (4-1), who allowed one run and five hits in his stellar six innings of work on the mound. Senior Landon Thomas singled and drove home two Ram runs. Seniors Trevor Flota and Hayden Poninski each hit safely and plated a run. Flota had a double and Poninski stole a pair of bases for MV. Junior Jake Pike chipped in with a pair of hits and stole a base.

Sandburg (11-5; 3-4) blanked Bolingbrook, behind University of Michigan-bound RHP Brian Pall. Pall fired a four-hitter at the Raiders with six strikeouts. Indiana-bound Austin Cangelosi and David Cronin plated the two Eagle runs. Cangelosi had an RBI double and Cronin an RBI single.

No. 11 Joliet West 3, No. 25 Lockport 1
Joliet West (12-4; 4-2) edged the No. 25 Porters on Thursday behind a three-hitter from junior LHP Zach Thomas. The run Thomas gave up was unearned and had nine punch-outs without allowing a walk. The Tigers scored three runs in the first and Thomas did the rest as Joliet West shares the top spot in the SWSC-Blue race with L-W Central (10-6; 4-2).

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 9, Bradley-Bourbonnais 0
Lincoln-Way North (16-0; 6-0) blanked Bradley-Bourbonnais, behind SIU-Edwardsville-bound RHP Mike Miller. Miller (4-0; 0.79 ERA) fired six shutout innings allowing just three hits and striking out eight to pick up the win. Miller’s battery mate, senior C Ryan Pellack, had a pair of singles, a double and drove home three Phoenix runs. St. Joseph’s College-bound SS Josh Handzik was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the state’s top team.

Bartlett (11-2; 9-1) slipped past South Elgin behind seniors Justin Blanchett and Ryan Karrick. Blanchett and Karrick each drove home two Hawk runs. Blanchett had a pair of singles while Karrick had one. Junior RHP Doug VanDyke went the distance scattering eight hits with eight strikeouts to pick up the win.

Lake Park 6, Metea Valley 2
Lake Park (13-4; 9-3) rolled past Metea Valley on Thursday, behind red-hot senior Chris Taugner and senior Eric Vatch. Taugner had two hits, scored three runs and drove in two. Taugner is now hitting .392 with 18 RBI for the Lancers. Vatch had a single, two doubles and plated three Lancer runs.

Senior RHP Mark Paul improved to 4-1 for the Lancers as the right-hander went the distance allowing two runs and scattering nine hits. 

Neuqua Valley 9, East Aurora 7
Neuqua Valley (11-6; 8-3) survived a seven-run Tomcat second and actually trailed 7-3 after two. The Wildcats rallied back behind Purdue-bound Jeff Evak who hammered a pair of homeruns and drove in six RBI. Western Kentucky-bound Cody Coll chipped in with two singles and two RBI. Senior LHP Danny Mokrzycki faced 12 Tomcat hitters and struck out six to pick up the win in four innings of relief. Creighton-bound RHP David Gerber nailed down the save with a spotless inning of relief, fanning two.

Nonconference

No. 3 Merrillville Andrean (IN) 4, No. 5 St. Laurence 3

No. 4 Rock Island Alleman 9, Princeton 3
Alleman (17-0) trailed early but roared back to win the nonconference battle on Thursday. Taner Ledezma homered and drove home three Pioneer runs while red-hot John Tracey had two more hits and two RBI. Pioneer starting and winning pitcher Miguel Sierra picked up the win on the mound. 

No. 6 Mount Carmel 4, Clemente 2
Mount Carmel hit the 20-victory mark with a win over a talented Clemente squad at Haggerty Park on Thursday. Senior LHP Austin Dodson improved to 4-0 on the mound with the win.

No. 7 Normal West 4, Rantoul 1
Normal West (15-3) defeated a scrappy Rantoul (14-4) squad in eight innings on Thursday. University of Illinois-bound Matthew James, WIU-bound Adam McGinnis, Jake Evans and red-hot junior Reed Rogers all had doubles to lead the Wildcats to victory.

Red-hot sophomore Reed Birlingmair had two more hits and senior Nick Hieb fired two scoreless innings of relief to improve to 6-0 on the season. Missouri State-bound LHP Alex Jefferson allowed one run in his solid six inning stint for West. The win was the ninth consecutive for the No.7  ‘Cats.

No. 16 Lincoln-Way East 13, Richards 5

No.20 Downers Grove South 5, Lyons Township 1
Downers Grove South (16-3) defeated Lyons Township (9-5) in a West Suburban Conference crossover game on Thursday. University of Minnesota-bound RHP Brian Glowicki (4-2) went the distance allowing a run and six hits to pick up the win. Junior Matt Zinnecker and University of Pacific-bound Dan Mayer each had two hits and two RBI. Zinnecker had a double. Mustang leadoff man Zach

Taylor chipped in with a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate.

Willowbrook 1, No. 19 Downers Grove North 0

Marian Catholic 7, Lincoln-Way Central 2
Marian Catholic (8-7) stunned Lincoln-Way Central (10-6) behind the big bats of Brad Bohlen and Jack Bainbridge. Bohlen went 3-for-3 and was a homerun short of hitting for the cycle, while Bainbridge was 2-for-2 with a single, triple and plated two Spartan runs.

Spartan winning pitcher Jack Healy (1-0) fired four innings of one-hit ball at the Knights. Bainbridge closed out the Knights with two scoreless innings in relief of Healy.
