Daily Roundup: May 1 Games



No. 1 Westminster 8   Lutheran South 1
Shane Benes continued his hot streak at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Brett Bond, Caleb Hicks, Bryce Bell, and Jordan Smith each chipped in with an RBI apiece.  Davis Vanderslice allowed one run and struck out four to notch the win. 

No. 3 Francis Howell 6   Francis Howell North 1
Calvin Munson struck out six and allowed two hits in a complete game win, and helped himself at the plate by adding a solo homerun to put the game out of reach in the fifth inning. 

No. 4 Notre Dame 4   Sikeston 1
Notre Dame fell for the second consecutive game, this time to Sikeston 4 to 1. A first inning RBI triple off the bat of Tyler Anderson followed by a wild pitch, which allowed Anderson to score, gave Sikeston an early 2-0 lead and provided enough offense to back the tandem of Trey Tigart and Doug Still, who combined to throw a one hitter and strike out nine. 

No. 5 Jefferson City 8   Quincy (IL) 0
A six run first inning was more than enough offense to put Jefferson City over Quincy. Rylie Klosterman and Trevor Rucker each drove in two runs on one hit and Cameron Carroll threw seven inning of shutout ball, scattering seven hits and striking out seven. 

No. 6 Carthage 10   Hillcrest 1
Cade Harris threw a three hitter, striking out seven to lead the Carthage Tigers over Hillcrest, and bouncing back from their first loss of the season on Tuesday. 

No. 8 Ladue 2   Affton 0
Rob Ewald continues to get it done on the mound for Ladue, this time striking out 11 Affton batters and allowing only three hits. Ryan Glazer went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Levi Greenberg dorve home a run to lead the Ladue offense. 

No. 9 Rockhurst 5   St. Joseph Central 0
Logan Gray picked up the win and went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Victor Brancato went 2-for-4 for Rockhurst 

No. 12 Vianney 7   St. Mary’s 2
No. 12 Vianney 6   St. Mary’s 0
Jim Brady allowed four hits and struck out six in a complete game win over St. Mary’s. Matt Brown doubled and drove home two runs, and Mat Jones and Jack Klages each doubled and drove home a run for the Griffin offense. 

In the second game of the double header, Nick Allgeyer threw five shut out innings, scattering three hits and striking out six to pick up the win. Kevin Dvorak doubled and drove home three and Matt Brown drove home two to lead the offense. 

No. 14 Malden 2   Portageville 1
Malden only had one hit in the game, but made it count. E.J. Stanley hit a two out, two RBI walk off double to advance Malden to the Bootheel Conference championship game.  Darren Green allowed five hits and struck out six to earn the 20th victory of his high school career. 

No. 15 Blue Springs South 10   Blue Springs 11 (8 innings)
Blue Springs knocked off rival Blue Springs South for the second time in a week in a game that featured a combined 22 hits between the two teams.  In the top of the eighth, Blue Springs took an 11-8 lead on a Dillion Jackson RBI double, and Jay Corwin sacrifice fly, and a Brandon Bennefeld RBI double.

Jake Burger went 2-for-3 with two triples and five runs driven in to lead CBC over DeSmet.

No. 19 Logan-Rogersville 6   Willard 4
Garrett Jernigan smacked two homeruns and drove in four and Justus Boever hit a solo shot to lead the Rogersville offense. Jacob Schlesener got the job done on the mound to pick up the win, allowing six hits in six innings of work. 

No. 20 Springfield Catholic 6   Buffalo 3
Collin Shaughnessy  picks up the win as Catholic improves to 18-2. 

No. 21 Valle Catholic 4   Park Hill Central 2 (MAAA Tournament)
Valle Catholic advanced to the finals of the MAAA Tournament after a strong outing by Tyler Litterest, who allowed two runs and five hits in a complete game effort. Nolan Wood had a perfect 3-for-3 game at the plate, with a single, double, and triple and driving in two runs to lead the Valle offense. Valle will face in town rival Ste. Genevieve for the tournament championship

No. 22 Lee’s Summit West 16   Ruskin 7 

Hazelwood West 5   Ritenour 1
Jordan Yakel allowed three hits and one run in seven innings, striking out five to pick up the win, and Devin Williams had two hits and two RBIs to lead the offense. 

Liberty 2   Lee’s Summit North 1
Brady Newland and Ryan Fischer drove home the only runs for Liberty, providing enough offense to back Jacob Francis’ six inning of three hit ball 

Ft. Osage 13   Oak Park 1
Derek Pike had one of the most impressive offensive outbursts so far this season, driving in seven runs by going 3-for-4 with a first inning grand slam, two run homerun in the fourth and RBI single in the 5th. Alex Merithew threw five innings of five hit ball and struck out 10. 

Seckman 12   Parkway West 6
Brady Politte went 2-for-3 with a double, a homerun and six RBIs to lead Seckman over Parkway West. Politte had a sacrifice fly in the first, a two RBI double in the second, and a three run homerun in the top of the seventh. 

Ft. Zumwalt West 8   Francis Howell Central 6
Zumwalt West scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to come back and defeat Howell Central. A two RBI single by Justin Fawcett tied the game at 6-6 and a two run scoring single off the bat of Danny Biggs gave Zumwalt West the lead. Austin Verschoore picked up the save, throwing a scoreless inning to preserve the win. 

Clever 12   Pleasant Hope 2
Travis Pennewell drove home three on two hits while Chance Wolfe and Caleb Edwards each drove in two to lead the Clever offense. Bryce Wilson picked up another win, throwing six innings of five hit ball and allowing two runs.

Nixa 7   Branson 3
A Blade Keller RBI single, J.D. Payne RBI double, and two RBI triple by Jacob Karlson in the top of the first gave Nixa a 4-0 lead that they would not relinquish. Athen Lummis threw a complete game allowing five hits and three runs while striking out six. 

Glendale 11   Waynesville 0
Glendale scored 11 runs on three hits, with Camp Carter collecting two of those hits and three RBIs. 

Webster Groves 8   Rockwood Summit 6
Jake Perry drove home three runs to lead the Webster offense and Kyle Uhrich allowed seven hits and struck out 10 to pick up the win on the mound. 

Lafayette 6   Lindbergh 4
Joshua Ripp went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Nick Oliff and Hayden Schofield each chipped in going 2-for-4 with a run driven in. 

Truman 12   Van Horn 2
Truman picked up their fifth consecutive win, with three pitchers combining to throw a four hitter, with Justin Madsen picking up the win. Cody Gregory doubled, homered, and drove in two runs to lead the Truman offense. 

Ste. Genevieve 6   Potosi 1 (MAAA Tournament)
Ste. Genevieve advances to the MAAA Tournament final behind the bat of Lucas Palmer, who went 3-for-4, including a three RBI double in the first to open up the scoring. Starting pitcher Andrew Suitor struck out 10 batters  and gave up five hits and a run to record the complete game win. 

Farmington 8   Kingston 1 (MAAA Tournament)
Nathan Gonz threw a one hitter with 11 strikeouts to defeat Kingston.  Rider Garrett had three RBIs and Logan Winder went 2-for-2 for the Farmington offense.
