Big 12

No. 3 Normal West 12, Bloomington 0
Normal West (23-3; 9-0) crushed Bloomington (21-9; 7-2) in six-innings behind a two-hit shutout from University of Illinois-bound Matthew James. James totally dominated the hard-hitting Purple Raiders, striking out 11 and not walking a man. With the victory, the future Fighting Illini right-hander improves to 9-0 on the season and 27-2 in his Normal West career. James’ ERA drops to 1.04 and the Wildcat ace has 90 strikeouts in 54 innings pitched.

Senior Josh Appel doubled and plated three Wildcat runs. Super-Soph Reid Birlingmair had three more hits including a triple and had two RBI while Missouri State-bound CF Alex Jefferson had three hits and drove home a ‘Cat run. Ryan Frye chipped in with a double and two RBI.

Normal West takes an 18-game winning streak into Danville on Saturday morning at 10

Nonconference

No. 2 St. Laurence 2, Oak Forest 1
St. Laurence (21-6 ) slipped past Oak Forest behind a solid five-inning game-winning performance on the mound from Viking senior RHP Robert Gutierrez. Gutierrez fired five shutout innings at the Bengals allowing five hits and striking out three. Junior RHP Alex Hitney slammed the door on the Bengals in the seventh to nail down the save.

2ND Annual Steven M. Bajenski Tournament

New Trier 5, Oak Park 0
New Trier (14-11-1) blanked Oak Park (17-8) behind a three-hit shutout from Trevian LHP Grant Stern. Stern struck out four Huskie hitters and walked five. Matt McCaffrey and Sammy Visconti each singled and plated a pair of NT runs. New Trier improves to 1-1 in Pool play and Oak Park falls to 0-1 with a Thursday night game with No. 5 St. Rita (25-4) at 7:30 at Wheaton College. 

Nonconference

Peoria Notre Dame 4, Bartonville Limestone 1
Peoria Notre Dame (20-5) scored two in the first and two in the seventh to end Bartonville Limestone’s (21-5) 13-game winning streak and extend the Fighting Irish’s own to 17 games on Friday night in Bartonville. Jeff Hurst led the Fighting Irish attack with a single double and drove home a pair of Fighting Irish runs. RHP Mike Birdoes allowed one run and three hits in his stellar five innings of work on the mound to pick up the win. Irish closer Josh Schwindenhammer faced six Rocket hitters in the sixth and the seventh to nail down the save for Birdoes.

On Thursday night, May 16th, the Fighting Irish will be participating in the 2nd Annual Steven M. Bajenski Memorial Tournament. PND will face Marian Catholic (19-8) and No.6 Mount Carmel (23-6) in Pool play at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood at 4:30 & 7:00

Southwest Suburban Red

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 4, Andrew 3
Lincoln-Way North (26-1-1; 12-0) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 3-2  Andrew (18-9; 8-4) lead and wrap up another SWSC-Red title for Phoenix head coach Joe Skarbek. The Phoenix tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch. Senior 1B Reed Hero became one when he followed with an RBI single plating the eventual game-winner. LHP Phoenix closer Brett King closed the door on the T-bolts in the seventh to nail down the save for SIU-Edwardsville-bound RHP Mike Miller (6-0).

Southwest Suburban Blue

No. 15 Lockport 2, Lincoln-Way Central 1
Lockport (20-6; 9-3) scored twice in the top of the fourth and slipped past Lincoln-Way Central (12-11; 6-6) under the lights in New Lenox. SIU Edwardsville-bound LHP Evan Martens (7-0) fired a four-hitter with eight strikeouts against the Knights. Purdue-bound Ted Snidanko and Heartland Community-bound Derek Bangert once again led the Porter attack. Snidanko doubled and had an RBI while Bangert singled and drove home a Porter run.
Joliet West 6, Joliet Central 0
Joliet West (17-7; 9-3) blanked city-rival Joliet Central behind a four-hit shutout from lefty Zach Thomas. Thomas was lights-out on the mound for the Tigers striking out 11 Steelmen hitters. Tiger No. 9 hitter Cody Grosse continued to punish the baseball with two more hits and two RBI. Alex Lakatos added a pair of hits and drove in two.

No. 18 Sandburg 6, No. 25 Lincoln-Way East 2
Sandburg (19-6; 8-4) swept away Lincoln-Way East (15-10; 5-7) behind a seven-hitter from University of Michigan-bound RHP Brian Pall (7-1). Pall struck out six Griffin hitters and did not walk a man. Dan Santiago led the Eagle attack with two hits and three RBI.

Central Suburban South

Niles West 6, Waukegan 4
Niles West (16-5; 9-4) defeated Waukegan behind ace RHP Kyle Colletta, who fired an eight-hitter with eight strikeouts against the Bulldogs.

DuPage Valley

Naperville North 6, No. 10 Naperville Central 3
Naperville North (15-10; 11-7) slowed down archrival Naperville Central (19-6; 14-4) at North Central College on Thursday. Huskie LHP Robert Leonard fired a seven-hitter at the DVC leaders with four strikeouts. Nick Solak led the North attack with a double triple three runs scored and two RBI.

Glenbard North 2, No. 21 Wheaton North 1
Glenbard North (15-10; 12-6) scored twice in the second inning and Panther starting and winning Matt Albin made the lead hold up as GBN slipped past Wheaton North (20-7; 12-6). Panther closer Adam Villanueva slammed the door on the Falcons in the seventh to nail down the save for Albin. Brett Consitt and Matt Stencil both had a single and an RBI for GBN

Fox Valley Fox

Grayslake North 4, Grayslake Central 3
Grayslake North (13-7; 9-6) won in walk-off fashion behind a huge crowd on the North Side of Grayslake. Carl Russell’s sac-fly scored Nick Carmody with the walk-off winner and set off a celebration that may be still rocking the North Side of Grayslake. Grayslake Central falls to 19-10 overall and 12-6 in the FVC-Fox. The two clubs will meet in downtown Grayslake Saturday morning at 10

Fox Valley Crossover

No. 13 Huntley 7, Woodstock 1
Huntley (22-3; 18-3) cruised past the Blue Streaks to move a step closer to a FVC-Valley crown behind RHP Josh Perkins. Perkins allowed one run and three hits in his stellar six innings of work to pick up the win. Nebraska-bound Bryce Only hit a bomb, doubled, and drove home two to lead the Red Raider attack. Red Raider C Tyler Mindak had two more hits and drove home a run.

Cary-Grove 10, Dundee-Crown 0
Cary-Grove (17-8; 11-5) blanked Dundee-Crown behind a six-hitter from Trojan RH ace Dean Lee.

Lee struck out four and walked two. Trojan C Matt Ewert and Zach Marszal both had two hits including a double and plated two runs to lead the CG attack. 

Prairie Ridge 3, McHenry 0
Prairie Ridge (19-8; 11-5) dumped McHenry behind RHP Steven Ladd’s two-hit shutout. Ladd fanned 10 warrior hitters while Wolves leadoffman Bryan Klendworth was 2-for-2 including a double and had an RBI. Danny Solis chipped in with a single and an RBI.

No. 20 Plainfield South 8, Plainfield North 0
Plainfield South (18-5; 14-3)

Interstate 8 Crossovers

Herscher 4, Plano 0
Herscher (25-2-2; 13-0-1) blanked the Reapers behind a seven-hit shutout from RHP Austin Mendell. Mendell had nine punch-outs for the Tigers. Tiger senior C Evan Regez had three hits and an RBI to lead the Tiger attack while Braden Muhlstadt chipped in with a single and an RBI. Blake Patchett was 2-for-2 at the plate for the I-8 South Champions.
