Southwest Suburban Red

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 9, Lincoln-Way West 3
Lincoln-Way North (28-1-1; 14-0) swept away rival Lincoln-Way West (19-10; 8-6) behind St. Joseph College-bound SS Josh Handzik. Handzik hammered a pair of bombs to lead the Phoenix past the Warriors (19-10; 9-5).

Nonconference

No. 11 Downers Grove South 8, No. 2 St. Laurence 3
Downers Grove South (27-5-1) won the battle between top 10 teams at Viking Field in Burbank on Tuesday. The Mustang’s University of Iowa-bound RHP Zack Burdi pitched and hit DGS past the second-ranked Vikings. Burdi (5-2) allowed three runs and eight hits in his five innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Burdi struck out two and walked six. Mustang closer Nick Alfini was lights-out in relief, fanning all five Viking hitters he faced to close out the game.

Junior 2B Joe Becht led the Mustang attack with two singles and three RBI while the future Hawkeye, Burdi, singled and had two RBI. University of Pacific-bound Dan Mayer chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

St. Laurence (22-7) head coach Pete Lotus sent out the Vikings No. 5 starter in anticipation of this weekend’s huge 2nd Annual Steven M. Bajenski Memorial Tournament. The Vikings Big Three, Mike Kornacker (6-1), Brad Wood (6-1) and Zach Lewis (5-3) will pitch in the tournament that honors the memory of the late Mount Carmel High School student and varsity baseball player Stevie Bajenski (1992-2009).

The Vikings will open up tournament play with No. 1 Lincoln-Way North (28-1-1) Thursday night at 4:30 from Benedictine University in Lisle. At 7, St. Laurence will take on Brother Rice (18-12). You can watch both games LIVE at www.prepbaseballreport.highschoolcube.com beginning with the Pregame Show at 4:15 p.m. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will have the exciting play-by-play of the huge Bajenski twin-bill.

Big 12

No. 3 Normal West 10, Decatur MacArthur 0
Normal West (27-3; 11-0) won its 22nd consecutive game and continued toward an undefeated run to the Big 12 Conference Championship on the West Side of Normal on Tuesday. Noah Johnson (1-0) fired four shutout innings allowing two hits and striking out eighth General hitters in his first varsity start.

University of Illinois-bound Matthew James pitched his final inning at Normal West, striking out the side in the top of the fifth to wrap up the game. James also used his bat in his last home game of his career, driving home three Wildcat runs.

Bloomington 6, Normal Community 4
Bloomington (24-9; 9-2) defeated rival Normal (18-11-7-4) in game one of the Twin-City series at Howard Saar Field in Bloomington. Senior Brandon Edwards (1-1) picked up the win in relief of super-soph Charlie Cerney (6-1) and senior Roman Visintine nailed down his second save of 2013. Sophomore Deion Thompson led Purple Raider attack with three hits and three RBI while junior Nick Chapman had a single and an RBI. Cerney chipped in with two hits at the plate.

Southwest Suburban Red

Andrew 10, Thornridge 0
Andrew (20-10; 10-4) rolled past Thornridge in five innings to hit the 20-victory plateau again for T-Bolt head coach Dave DeHaan.

Southwest Suburban Blue

No.10 Lockport 11, Joliet Central 0
Lockport (23-7; 10-3) blanked the Steelmen in five-innings on Tuesday behind Heartland Community College-bound C Derek Bangert. Bangert hammered his eighth round-tripper of 2013 with two Porters aboard and finished with four RBI for the 10th-ranked Porters. Red-hot Ron Sessler was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Porter RHP Eric Duzan fired a two-hit shutout at the Steelmen with six strikeouts. Bangert is hitting .385 with the eight bombs and 36 RBI. Duzan improves to 5-1 with a miniscule 0.59 ERA.

Joliet West 3, Bolingbrook 1
Joliet West (19-9; 10-3) stayed atop the SWSC standings with Lockport, behind senior LHP Quinn Ahern and junior Zach Thomas. Ahern (5-1) fired a two-hitter at the Raiders with seven strikeouts and the Raider run was unearned. Thomas led the Tiger attack with three hits including a double and plated a pair of Tiger runs.

The defending SWSC Co-Champions, Joliet West and Lockport close out SWSC play on Thursday. Lockport will take on Joliet Central at Ed Flink Field in Lockport while the Tigers travel to Bolingbrook.

No. 19 Sandburg 10, Homewood-Flossmoor 1
Sandburg (21-7; 9-4) crushed H-F behind the booming bat of University of Indiana-bound leadoff man Austin Cangelosi. Cangelosi went deep twice and drove in four runs to lead the Eagle attack. Dave Cronin continued his hot-hitting with a pair of singles and two RBI while Pete Paxinos was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. On the mound for the Eagles RHP Sean Leland was outstanding firing a one-hitter with seven strikeouts at the Vikings.

No. 17 Ottawa 8-5, Geneseo 2-4
Ottawa (22-2; 14-0) won in walk-off fashion when RHP Kevin Scheffler’s perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt plated Kyle Wallbaum with the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh of game two at King Field in Ottawa. Scheffler’s squeeze made himself the winning pitcher having pitched a scoreless seventh in relief against the Maple Leafs. Wallbaum continued his torrid hitting with a 2-for-2 game with an RBI and Tabor Griglione chipped in with a single and two RBI.

In game one, the Pirates rolled behind ace Jonah Morris (8-1), who fired a four-hitter with eight strikeouts at the Leafs. University of Illinois-bound Mike Hermosillo had two hits, including a triple scored three runs and drove home two. Wallbaum had two hits and Colten Trager singled doubled and plated a pair for the NIB-12 champions. The Pirates will take on their archrivals from La Salle-Peru at beautiful Veterans Park in Peru tonight at 6:30.

Southwestern

O’ Fallon 10, Collinsville 4
O’Fallon (23-10; 10-3) romped past Collinsville (16-9; 7-6) to stay atop the SWC with Belleville West on Tuesday. Jeff Hahs, Tanner Hudson, Ethan Wilde and Isaiah Sarpy, all plated a pair a runs for the Panthers while junior Blake Deatheridge went the distance alloweing one earned run and seven hits to pick up the win. O’Fallon will hope to nail down a victory at Belleville East on Thursday to claim the Panthers fourth consecutive SWC title.

Belleville West 8, Granite City 4
Belleville West (19-10; 10-3) rolled past Granite City (12-18; 4-8) behind the red-hot bat of Maroon Nick VanOsdale. VanOsdale hammered a pair of booming doubles and drove home two runs to keep West tied with O’Fallon atop the SWC. RHP Parker Beine fired six stellar innings in relief allowed two runs and five hits to pick up the win. Beine helped himself at the plate with two singles and an RBI. The Maroons will travel to Virgil Fletcher Field in Collinsville on Thursday with hopes of a victory and at least a share of the SWC championship.    

Edwardsville 10, East St. Louis 0
Edwardsville (24-8; 10-4) hammered East St. Louis in five innings on Tuesday to wrap up the Tigers SWC campaign at 10-4. The Tigers for one day, Thursday, will be huge Belleville East Lancer and Collinsville Kahok fans. The Tigers need the Lancers to defeat O’ Fallon and the Kahoks to defeat Belleville West and that would cause a tri-championship, including the Tigers, in the SWC.

Fox Valley Valley

No. 23 Crystal Lake South 13, Dundee-Crown 1
Crystal Lake South (17-5; 14-5) scored six times in the first inning and put a quick ending to this Valley contest on Tuesday. Ryan Wilkening (1-0) fired a one-hitter at the Chargers with three strikeouts Red-Hot Gator leadoffman Troy Bittenbender continued his all-out assault on the baseball with three more hits and an RBI. Paul Willie and Garret Bright shined for the Gators, as each had two hits including a double and drove home a Gator run.

FVC Valley leader No. 8 Huntley (23-4; 14-4) travels to McHenry (19-13; 11-7) for a 7 o’clock battle with the Warriors tonight. I expect the entire Gator squad will be in McHenry pulling for a Warrior victory which would give CLS a share of the 2013 FVC-Valley title.

Central State 8

No. 17 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 14, Taylorville 3
Sacred Heart-Griffin (22-5; 11-4) crushed Taylorville on Tuesday behind junior Mitch Trees. Trees homered, had two singles, scored two runs and drove home four, to lead the Cyclone attack. Senior David Jacob went deep and was 2-for-2 while Dan Stefancic added three hits, including a double and an RBI. Cyclone starting and winning pitcher Connor Etheridge, allowed two runs and eight hits in his six innings of work to pick up the win.  

Jacksonville 9, Springfield 0
Jacksonville (17-8; 11-4) blanked Springfield (16-13; 10-5) to stay tied with SHG atop the CS8 standings. The Crimson will meet the Senators in Jacksonville today in Jacksonville. A Crimson victory would assure at least a share of the CS8 championship. Three-time defending CS8 champ Chatham Glenwood (16-8; 9-4) takes on Springfield Southeast today and plays Lanphier on Thursday and Friday to conclude 2013 CS8 play.

DuPage Valley

No. 15 Naperville Central 10, West Chicago 8
Naperville Central (21-7; 16-4) received another tough game from last-place West Chicago on Tuesday in Naperville. With the win the Redhawks wrapped up the DVC championship for 2013. Senior Jimmy Nashert hit a bomb singled and plated a pair to lead the Redhawk attack. Butler-bound Jeff Schank continued his hot-hitting with two hits, including a double and an RBI while sophomore Bobby McMillan hammered a pair of doubles and plated a Redhawk run.

Wheaton North 10, Wheaton Warrenville South 2
Wheaton North (22-7; 14-6) crushed the Tigers behind Wheaton College-bound John Peltz on Tuesday. The future-Crusader homered, doubled scored two runs and drove home four to lead the Falcons past the archrival Tigers. Cody Gregory added three hits and three RBI for WN. On the mound Lake Bacher (7-0) allowed two runs and six hits in his solid six-inning stint to pick up the win. Bacher had two hits as well. Bacher is hitting .360 with two homers and 30 RBI for the Falcons. On the mound great Lake
is 7-0 with a 1.96 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched.

Glenbard North 7, Naperville North 5
Glenbard North (17-10; 14-6) defeated Naperville North in Carol Stream on Tuesday. Senior Matt Frawley had two hits including a bomb to lead the Panthers past the Huskies.

Southwest Prairie

No. 18 Minooka 21, Plainfield North 11
Minooka (21-7; 16-3) scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and coasted past Plainfield North…..Whoops wrong sport. Led by junior leadoffman Neal Tyrell, Minooka moved a step closer to the SWPC title on Tuesday. Tyrell had four hits and drove home five Indian runs. Ty Desmartis chipped in with two hits and three RBI as the Indians won for the 13th consecutive game.  

Mid-Suburban Crossovers

Fremd 4, Rolling Meadows 2
Fremd (18-9; 11-5 West) slowed down MSL-East champ Rolling Meadows (16-9-1; 14-2) on Tuesday behind Viking ace, Mack Rosman. Rosman fired a seven-hitter at Meadows with four strikeouts. Sean Beutler led the Viking attack with three hits and an RBI.

Metro Suburban

Riverside-Brookfield 8, Elmwood Park 2
Riverside-Brookfield (26-3-1; 14-2) rolled behind super-junior RHP Will Kincanon who went 6 1/3 innings to improve to 9-0 on the mound for the Bulldogs.

Glenbard South 7, Ridgewood 5
Glenbard South (15-9; 11-5) won a thriller in Glen Ellyn as Raider Tony Tenuta’s walk-off two-run bomb had the Raider fans dancing on Butterfield Road on Tuesday evening.

North Suburban Lake

Stevenson 7, No. 13 Mundelein 1
Mundelein (24-4; 10-2) seemed to have a hang-over after the Mustangs clinched the NSC-Lake crown on Monday and were trounced by Stevenson (17-10; 9-3). Stevenson was led once again by red-hot Zach Novoselski, who had three hits and a pair of RBI for the Patriots.

Warren 5, Libertyville 4
Libertyville (19-10-1; 8-4) missed an opportunity for win No. 20 and fell to Warren in Gurnee on Tuesday.

North Suburban Prairie

Wauconda 13, Antioch 6
Wauconda (17-5; 11-0) outslugged Antioch on Tuesday.

Public League Playoffs

Simeon 14. Von Steuben 7
Simeon (17-7) rolled in the CPL Playoffs behind University of Louisville-bound CF Corey Ray. Ray homered, singled and plated three Wolverine runs. Wolverine RHP Darien Clifton picked up the win on the mound for the defending CPL Champions.

South Suburban Blue

No. 20 Lemont 10, Hillcrest 0
Lemont (21-4; 16-0) continued to run the table in the SCC-Blue defeating Hillcrest in five-innings on Tuesday before Indian Nation at 131st & Bell Road in Lemont.  

South Suburban Crossover

Oak Lawn 6, Tinley Park 1
Oak Lawn (13-13; 12-6 Red) rolled past Tinley Park behind senior LHP Bobby Kametas, who fired a four-hitter at the Titans. Kametas struck out 11 to improve to 7-0 for the 2013 campaign. Spartan Brandon Quillan had two hits including a solo-shot in the fifth inning.   

Southland

Rich Central 17, Rich East 0
Rich Central (24-4; 13-1) crushed rival East in five innings on Tuesday to stay atop the SC with Crete-Monee.

Crete-Monee 3, Rich South 2
Crete-Monee (20-5; 13-1) slipped past Rich South to set up a winner-take-all SC championship game against SC co-leader Rich Central, in Olympia Fields on Thursday at 4:30

Upstate 8 River

Batavia 14, Streamwood 4
Batavia (22-6; 17-5) stayed atop the U8C River standings romping past the Sabres on Tuesday,

St. Charles East 10, Elgin Larkin 0
St. Charles East (19-9-1; 16-6) stayed within one game of U8C leader Batavia on Tuesday.

Upstate 8 Valley

Lake Park 6, Waubonsie Valley 0

No. 21 Oak Park 2, Willowbrook 1
Oak Park (23-8) slipped past Willowbrook in Oak Park on Tuesday.

Montini 17, Geneva 8
Montini’s (19-6) junior 3B Austin Kline was a one-man wrecking crew for the Broncos on Tuesday. Kline. Kline who fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle singled doubled homered and plated a half-dozen Bronco runs.
